I really wish for the return of Warmaster, Epic and BFG. But I highly doubt FFG will get license to make miniatures. RPG and board games, yes. Miniatures, no.
-
FF's license with GW is one that explicitly forbids miniatures that could compete with GW's. I think if we did get anything they would be very abstract ones with markers like Disk Wars.
-
But how could 10mm minis compete with 28mm ones? Different rule sets.
-
If this isn't a rumor, they probably would go the board game route if they can't make minis...cant say I'd want to see that. Unless it's made in such a way that swapping out markers for minis would be viable.
-
Even if they did do minis, they would be in that rubbery plastic their normal games are made with. You're talking about stuff that's of Descent quality - not bad but really not up to GW stuff.
-
I think there is a fine line between "miniatures" and "tokens or playing pieces" certainly at WM or Epic scale the argument could be made that infantry stands and vehicles are just elaborately modelled counters to mark where a unit is....
I'll believe the rumour when I see it, but I'd be all in favour, even if the model range was altered into more playing piece style.... I already have large armies of real minis for epic and warmaster, and it would give me a chance to try BFG out too....
-
I would not look to FFG to make anything usable for the SGs we currently play. Stand-along games with the same theme, sure, but the best chance of anything usable for EA/WM/BFG/etc would be through a limited release ala Space Hulk.
-
Presumably they could possibly do Battle of Five Armies?
-
Anybody can do Battle of Five Armies. The contents of the box is well known and the stat lines are almost identical to Warmaster Fantasy. If you can't find a bear, model Beorn in his human form before he shifts. Without going into details the spells (biggest difference) involves moving units, shooting/bonus attacks, +1 save and an Elven (funnily enough) "Geroff" spell. Nothing unknown to regular Warmaster players. :)
Edit: Besides, FFG already have a boardgame with that name. It's very annoying when googling.

I think BFG can be done as a board game. just X amount of battleships, crusiers, and escorts a side. all packaged in a one cardboard box. Imperium v Orks. and then another expansion of chaos v eldar.
