Hi everyone!
Finally having something to contribute with I have decided to start this topic :)
Here I will post things related to the SG's and maybe some other hobbyrelated stuff too.
First off I want to show off my little hobby"room" wich is actually a storage I am renting extra for the apartment that I am living in. It's situated in the basement so its close enough if my GF or kid needs me but still perfect for undisturbed hobbysessions. This is the place I go to when I need to unwind a bit ^_^
-
Nice- being in the basement means you have a true man cave ;D
-
Indeed! ^_^
I have been filling it up with second hand stuff I find for cheap :) Table, Lamps, Chair, Stereo and so on. Getting it all ready has been a fun little project in itself ^_^
-
Nice Den! Ready to paint!
-
Next - an actual finished paintingproject. (Some might have seen it already on FB)
I finally found time to start painting my Warmaster OnG's and first up was 9 units of orcs.
Having used Army Painter before on 28mm I was inspired to use it again after reading this topic:
http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=4426.0 (http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=4426.0)
I did some extra steps like drybrushing after basecoating and used a lot more different colours for a ragtag feel. Other than that it's basically the same procedure. The results you can get this way is freakin awesome!
Anyways - basing is done using fine wallplaster + pebbles painted gray and then inked. Add flock and tuft and the waaaaaagh is good to go!
See pictures for results :)
-
Currently on the table - Trolls for Warmaster.
White basecoat and black ink + drybrush a very light blue. Then wash with watered down darker blue.
White basecoat and brown ink + wash with watered down green.
Next step will be to pick out details and see how it all feels :)
-
Ahh! These are beautiful, thanks for sharing. =)
-
These are great- I'm very jealous with the speed and quality. I plan to try painting more like this for future armies.
-
Those orks rock!
Trolls are very fun to paint. You are getting a great orc n goblin feeling with this scheme of colours.
-

It is a pretty fast way of painting :) Especially when you put them on a production line doing each colour one at a time. It will also be very boring, but worth it in the long run. I started painting the orcs in middle of November and could not paint that often because of studies, work and christmas and such.
Thanks for all the kind words everyone!
-
Nice orcs and nice trolls too. I'd like to try your "painting troll method" on some coppelstone's trolls.

If you do I think you can skip the drybrushing step without problems. And I think my homemade wash did not settle as good in the recesses as a bought one would. Still unsure if I am going to use the Army Painter dip for this as last step or use different washes on the details instead...
-
Decided to show off a project thats been put on hold since a good while.
Might get it up and running in the future - just need to find the inspiration again.
I am building myself a foldable BB-pitch. Since I have a Necromantic team I decided that some kind of graveyardish feel was appropriate. But as stated - not done much with it in a good while and having too much fun with painting Warmaster atm :P
-
I love projects like that!
-
Excellent stuff! A foldable BB pitch has been on my project dream list for many years, I hope you see yours through to completion.
-
I basically hit the part where whatever I do wrong will be hard to fix so I got cold feet and then started on something new. Will think about what kind of sand and flock to put on... Not sure yet...
-
Anyways - here is a sneak peak. These where just "dipped" (I use a brush - less mess that way) and are drying as I type. Stone trolls are next.
- Should I mix trolls on bases for bigger variety?
- Anyone now a good way to do saliva/slobber hanging from the river troll's mouths?
-
My plan (when I get around to it) is to have distinct units of stone trolls and river trolls- but there's no reason not to mix them.
For saliva- there's heaps of water-effects products that may work. I have no experience with them though, so test the idea first.
-
I found a few different tutorials and will experiment with some glue since I happen to have that at home :) Hopefully resulting in some slimey rivertrolls.
In other news I have managed to paint and dip the Stonetrolls and results are looking promising!
As with my orcs, the trolls were mainly painted listening to AC/DC. Feels fitting for a proper Waaaaaaagh!
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5MqEnxFYxbw
-
Now you have a herd of trolls! scary
-
6 units worth ^_^ You can field 9 at 3000 point but I am not sure that will ever happen?
-
Nice work. And quite courageous to paint 6 units at once - congrats.
I see you dip the miniatures when they are still on the 'painting sticks'.
Maybe an idea: for O&G I first glue the miniatures to the base and add some coarse gravel. And then I dip the whole. This adds shading to the base as well and acts as additional glue.
Keep on building that green horde!
-
Compared to the 9 units of orcs the trolls were a breeze ;) It does take a lot of commitment and pushing myself to continue to paint even when it feels like nothing is happening. I believe I get things done faster in the end though.
I have dipped miniatures on bases before and like the effect :) With 2 separate strips so close to each other and wanting to put some extra work on the bases I decided against it though.
I just started my new job today after finishing my studies. Will probably have to put a little less time on painting from now on :/
Still - I am thinking about start painting my goblins. 11+ units is going to be the death of me. Currently experimenting with different ways of painting them that still gives me a lot of nice shades and some colour. Will post some of it when I find time ^_^
Thanks all for commenting. It keeps me motivated!
-
Here are some players in my Chaos Pact BB-team. All GW-figures except the Goblin whom I got from comixininos. Very good webstore if you are looking for BB-miniatures :D
These were painted about 2 years ago and I am pretty pleased with all of them except for the Dark Elf and Troll.
-
These were painted with Army Painter colours and dip, but on all miniatures I did more than just basecolouring and on a few I put some extra love and care. Then based and brushed on the "dip".
Not pleased with Dark Elf because The hair aint as good as I wanted. The troll was coming along nicely but being the last piece to paint I sadly got impatient and rushed it after a while...
-
wow nice BB team, and spectacular collection of Game Colours.
With the gobbos keep the motivation high, painting 11+ units at once is a serious thing and could make you abandon the project, so go on mlkr!
I remember my 8 units of bofa goblins. I painted not at once, but one after another... and it was a exhasted exercise.
-
You've managed to make one of the overly-muscled minotaurs look good- well done. I like converting current style miniatures into Blood Bowl ones as well.
For the goblins, I found them much easier to paint than the orcs (though 11 units is huge). My method was to undercoat in black and drybrush on different shades of blue-grey, before even looking at the detail. That gave a quick sense of accomplishment, as the models are mostly clothing.
-
Thanks :)
Have been experimenting a bit with white undercoat and different techniques but so far not pleased with results. My main goal is to allow for bows and other details (squigs and stuff) to be brightly coloured. I want those parts to really stand out.
Black undercoat is of course the obvious choice since thats the biggest part of the sculpts but it also creates the need for multiple layers of working backwards up to bright colours... :/ Vallejos yellow doesnt really help either - the ones I got aint that good... Will probably have to suck it up and go this route in the end.
If so I will airbrush on a mix of almost black
Drybrush with blues or purple - havent decided yet.
Find a good bright colour that covers well and "undercoat" details.
From there - give them the regular treatment and finish with a "dip".
11+ units though :S It will hopefully not be so bad.
Anyways - just finished studies and started my new job so wont have as much time as before. Workpace will be slower. Cheers!
-
I love seeing modern "gang" shots like that, good job.
-
Thanks! :)
Quick update: Cleaned and organized my workspace. New box for storage of and easy access to basingmaterial + mini's in que.
Found a small amount of Troll's that I missed. Decided to paint them + Trolls from Polar Fox to add variety to my units. Really nice sculpts from PF.
Will also paint up my rocklobbas since the trolls for those are done. If I can be bothered I will have them fling squigs instead ;)
Tested if Feldherr foam trays fit warmaster-bases and it is very good! Will order a carrying case so I can transport the army safely.
That's that for now ^^
-
Decided to paint them + Trolls from Polar Fox
Don't forget to insert the 'vomit' peace into the mouth of appropriate troll ;)
-
Will certainly do ^^ 1-2 trolls will probably be put as bodyguards for characters. Maybe the pukong one ;D
-
So, I started on the night goblins - cleaned about 9 units from flash and pondered how to paint them and such. While doing this I noticed it would be possible to split some strips in half without cutting into any gobbos! Why would I do this you ask? For greater variation of looks in the units :) also - since these will take some time to finish I might as well go all out :P
You can actuallly cut all variations of strips in half. I think it's only one strip where I had to cut a bow a bit short but it wont be noticed. So my plan is to cut about half or 2/3 of my strips and then mix and match them together. Hopefully creating a more chaotic look to the units when they are done :)
Pictures attached. First is the regular look (but already split) and second and third are mixed. More combinations possible :)
-
Neat idea. I may consider this when I get back around to painting my goblins.
-
If you want to increase the variation of your units even more, you can add single miniatures from other units. As an example: I removed two saurus warriors from a stripe and placed a single kroxigor on their spot. You could do a similar thing by replacing some goblins with a troll. Or maybe a goblin on a wolf? Or adding some goblin characters to a front rank of a unit? For my orc and goblin army I am thinking of adding some of the rare spider riders to some goblin units.
Cant wait to see your goblin horde :)
-
Sounds good to me, I can't wait to see what it becomes! "Do it up!"
-
If you want to increase the variation of your units even more, you can add single miniatures from other units...
This is an excellent idea! :D I was thinking I could maybe use half a strip on a characterstand but adding a little bit of everything to the gobbos on a larger scale would be really cool ^_^
The gobbos will take a long time to get done though. Will try out painting on black undercoat on the gobbos that I have for my rocklobbas but I am more fond of white undercoat so we will see...
Waiting for some paints and sprays thats in the mail so that I can base my trolls.
Picture - Polar Fox Trolls getting the treatment and 3 rocklobbas getting some paint on them.
-
Here we go.
-
Setback! Made some mistakes while painting my rocklobbas. The yellow one went and took a bath because I glued the "hand" on wrong and therefore some details went upside down when assembled. I failed in another way on the other two lobbas. As of now both right-side pieces are painted red and both left are painted brown... So when assembled both lobbers are brown/red... It works, so I might keep it because I can't be bothered. Pictures to come.
-
Forgot to add pictures when I took them but here they are. I will probably keep them as is just because of the hassle to strip them.
-
Do you even need to strip them? You can paint around the metal- is there much detail on the wood that may be lost?
-
hmmm, maybe not - I painted them with diluted paint over white, so there is a lot of shading not shown in my pictures that will probably need some work.. Will think about it.
-
Love the BB pitch!
-
Just a quick update on tonights work. Polar Fox-trolls will be joining their GW-brethren on the bases. Not quite done but almost! Hopefully dipped tomorrow and based the day after that. Ready just in time for a 10 person tournament on Thursday! :D
These sculpts are really good and will tie in well with what I already have painted. I decided to paint the cloth tied around their arms and legs like metal sincethe GW-sculpts have this. Thinking about adding some squigs to some of the bases for a colourfull presence on the table.
More updates to come. Enjoy!
-
Looking great hun =)
-
Thanks.
-
*Blaaaaaaaarghhh*
Edit: As soon as I saw the pic on screen I noticed a troll with unpainted hair... urgh.
-
Nice trolls, though I think I'm going to like those colourful squigs more ;D
-
How about both? ;)
Bases lack colour and grass+tuft but these 4 units will see the battlefield tomorrow!
WAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!!
-
Also - my all infantry-list for the funs :D
-
Very nice. I'll be interested to hear about their on-table performance. The -1 command penalty looks very harsh for Orcs.
-
Oh, they are basically a very expensive but very dangerous roadblock. If they actually do manage to move a bit I will be pretty pleased ;)
Will take photos of my games today so will try and create battlereports.
-
As expected - very expensive roadblock. 4 Trolls isnt really viable in a 2000 points army I'm afraid. All 3 battles have been photographed and I will try to do something interesting with the material when I can find the time.
-
An unfortunate first outing. One suggestion I've heard of is to take trolls with a crown of command. You can only give them one order a turn (reliably), and it must be with the general, but it'll be at an unmodified 10- so distance and all other factors don't matter.
-
Yup. I was contemplating that and would def drop a troll for a nice crown on my general and the added bonus of actually get to use the trolls!
They won best painted unit at least ^_^
-
A brigade of trolls might indeed not be the fastest brigade on a table - and indeed for a whopping amount of points.
I tend to make brigades containing 1 troll and 1-2 goblin units - goblins initially to take some shooting hits and afterwards for support. You need some additional commanders to get them to actually move but these brigades are ideal for keeping an objective or holding a defended part of terrain. And people tend to remain more than 20 cm away from them :)
O&G have a command penalty but it can be countered by taking an extra hero. Especially in larger games it does not really matter - it's just that your general has 1 less command value. Field sufficient orc heroes and your army should move...
Jo
-
The problem with the trolls though is they give an extra -1 command penalty to any brigade they are a part of- so our usually low but ok leadership becomes very poor.
Extra heroes help you try and get the trolls moving and still keep the rest of the army going, but the trolls themselves are still not going to be moving much (it can be very easy for opponents to drop the effective leadership to 6 at most).
-
Screw gobbos! Ogres might not be greener but they are certainly meaner ;)
Based 3 per base these will add up to 6 units +4 mini's I can use on characterbases and such ^_^
-
Looking hungry!
(Meanwhile not far away on the coast some Reiksguard are being paintjob-converted to Knights Panther and Knights of the Blazing Sun).
-
Grrr, looking very mean! =D
-
I am very much looking forward to painting these. Results will come quick and considering how much fun I had with the trolls these will be a blast! I am planning to put some extra time on them - Giving some of them striped pants and other details. I will need to try out some different skin-tones though and maybe go with 2-3 different ones. Slight variations only.
-
Ogre's are now primed. Have done some work on rocklobbas and preparing the rest of my trolls for basing.
Painting will sadly go slow the next month though as I will be pulling long hours at work staying in another city so weekends will be dedicated to family.
Hoping to get 2 rocklobbas and the trolls based before that though. We will see :)
What do you guys think about the gobbos I tested out?
-
The goblins look good. Blue and gold are more regal than I'd usually associate with goblins, but that's no issue.
-
Yeah, not superhappy with choice of metal. Will go for simple iron on the rest when the time comes. Clothes are black base, then purple and last a bit of blue highlight. Pictures are a bit more bluish than irl though :) will experiment further!
-
First post for the night
https://youtu.be/MEnqdsKOLz4
Testing if timelapse could be an interesting way of doing battlereports. Much to do before it would work nicely!
-
Catching up on basing all my troll units. Thought I should show off the excellent Polar Fox-Trolls. They fit in nicely with their GW-brethren!
Looking forward to finishing all the bases with some squigs, flock and paint ^_^
-
Oh wow they mix up well - great job overall.
-
Almost finished. Not much room on the base for everything I want to put on it ;)
-
I love your BB pitch!
-
Thank you! ^^ will be finishing it someday when I find the inspiration again.
-
Trolls are done!
-
Polar Fox-trolls!
-
The somewhat succesfully painted Rocklobbas.
-
Very nice. May they serve you well in-game!
-
Boring update - work on the army is slow. I am currently working away from home doing 12hour shifts. When home I put a lot of time with family.
Currently painting ogres but nothing to show yet. Having a boring night away from home so thought I'd write a short update.
-
I love the tones on your trolls - not too lurid but with plenty of standout. I think that's the best way to paint the more cartoony sculpts.
Great stuff all round!
-
That army is indeed growing fast!
Great work mlkr. Painting is exquisite, and you choose a great variety of colours!
so cool army
-
It's ALIIIIIIVE!
Hey fellow hobbyists. Work took a huge chunk out of my time for family and hobbying and when it finally let up our club had an upcoming convention to put together. Anyways - finally found the time and the geist to do something again :)
- I have started up the work on my ogre's, 5 units worth. Still lots to do so no pictures.
- I am working on a custom wyvern for one of the Polar Fox wyvernriders
- Magog the hill giant is getting customized so that he doesnt look so clean/naked.
Very fun to be up and running again :D
-
(http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12/28/56c1de290a624128b08aad6a6594cb11.jpg)
Quick pic on the wyvern :)
-
Great work on the giant. The Wyvern looks cool, though I'd want an extremely good, padded saddle to sit astride that thing...
-
Nice! I can't look too close though as I need another project like I need a hole in Da Ead!
-
Thanks Geep and Gun_wun :)
Wyvernrider will get a nice and comfy seat as per request.
Meanwhile - Giant got himself a pair of pants.
Also, some of the boys have begun work on a looted steamtank for when one of the big-unz wants to command in style!
Lastly - Ogres slowly coming along.
Very happy to have found some inspiration again. I have found a thermoplastic from "Green stuff world" that I am using to copy details and adding to my builds. Pretty easy and good results. The rest is trial by error since I have done close to no sculpting in green stuff before.
Will update again when I have some finished results to show off! ^^
-
... and the last 2 images spoken off.
-
YEAH, very nice conversion of the tank ! I like the opening on front. Go on with this project !
-
You guys really do magic with green stuff.
-
You guys really do magic with green stuff.
Nah, Except for sculpting the clothing and fur on the giant I am just copying existing GW-stuff using this product:
http://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/26-reusable-blue-stuff
With that said - it is very fun to do "your own"-stuff and looking at what Gun_wun and others on the forum is doing is a big inspiration to do something completely original some day. Just have to paint thousands of points OnG's first and then I have that VC-army next and then....
-
Wow, that's cool. I didn't even know that something like "bluestuff" existed. Good to know. Thanks for the link. But nice work anyway. :D
-
Red wunz go fasta!
Conversion done! Might do another one someday. Not 100% happy with this one. But 90% is still good enough ;)
Army painter dip is still drying so still got the matte spray, some detailing and then basing. It'll probably look good when on the battlefield with the rest of the army.
-
Very nice (and odd). What will it count as in-game?
-
Count as hero mounted on wagon :)
-
Ere we go! Ere we go! Ere we go!
-
superb!
-
Good stuff!
-
Nice. Really like that sort of cross fertilisation.
-
Mmm nice but the wood on the left could have been painted better. Too dark i think.
-
Mmm nice but the wood on the left could have been painted better. Too dark i think.
Agree! Will go over and do some highlighting. Paintjob works overall, but I am not 100% happy.
-
Painting some stuffs.

It's all lookin' good 'n' orky =3
-
Looking really good. Love the Ogres with their football team colours!
-
Hey, excellent ork statue ! Did you do it yourself or did you bought it ?
-
@Marell

-
Polarfox... Of course, what else ? :)
-
Yeah they look awesome. When I get around to painting my small (but slowly growing) greenskin horde these terrain features are a must. Well painted and presented Sir.
Thanks for the photo's and inspiration - it really helps.
-
Thank you all for feedback and inspiration to keep on painting. I have been stuck on 5 units of Ogres for far too long now. Finally got them dipped today so all that is left is give them all a dullcoat and basing.
I wont be painting this many units at the same time again - it's good in some ways but it feels like you never get anything done. Urgh!
Anyways - going to GothCon (Swedens oldest, biggest gamingcon) tomorrow so last few steps will have to wait a while.
On to the pictures eh?

-
Brilliant stuff, they look like proper ogres. =)
-
Thanks :) I am not sure if I should base them with only ogres or maybe paint up a few gobbos, squigs and such to base them with for a bit more diversity?
-
Very nice. The 'diversity' idea sounds like a good one.
-
Back from Con I just had to do a test-scheme for my Night Gobbos. I am pretty pleased with the results so these will be used later when I actually decide to paint all those little buggers...
Will do a few more of these single mini's and base them together with my Ogres ^_^

-
Wow- I'll be amazed if you can paint full goblin units to that standard without going mad!
-
I think those are the bests Gobbos I've seen in a while.
-
The goblins look really good. Look forward to seeing the final, based ensemble.
-
Awesome !! As said, one of the very best gob i've ever seen !
-
Wow :) thanks everyone ^_^
And yes Geep - these will probably put me right at the brink of madness ;)
I think the way to do it will be to focus on painting other stuff but once in a while paint a strip or two of gobbo's. Should help keep me sane. A little while longer anyways ^^
-
Fantastic looking stuff.
-
Wow that is amazing level of detail on what, say a 7mm lump of metal. Your warmaster gobbos are better painted than my 28mm GW ones. I need to have good hard look at my painting. Inspirational stuff though - you must have 20/20 vision right? Truly awesome stuff!
cheers
-
With my glasses on yes ;) thank you all again for all the kind words!
I find it much easier to get good results on 10mm than 28mm. It's easier to cheat, or the cheating at least looks better in this scale?
I based these white, then washed it all with nuln oil bringing out all the little details so it's easier to see whats what. I did the yellow first and then the reds. These can be done a bit sloppy as long as I take care not getting anything on the skinareas. I create the shapes of the yellow when putting on black. The skin is done with a watered down light green. The shading from the nuln oil shines through so I get a highlight effect for free. I make sure to not get any colour on the teeth. The last step is to wash it all with armypainter dip and that creates the final effect. I use Vallejo Charcoal as black so there is a slight darkening of that too from the dip.
So basically it's not much technique other than a steady hand. But at this scale the results are very nice indeed :) I have tried this at 28mm too (my blood bowl team in this thread) but at that scales armypainter dip tends to look more dirty and/or sloppy...
-
I dont have anything new to show for my OnG's - busy with family and the gaming club. Just wanted to put it out there that this style of painting Warmastermini's is really nice!
Next army I paint I will try to do in this technique. Question is what army that should be?! It's really a far away in the future kinda question since I still have way to much OnG's to paint ;)
/Mlkr
-
Ooh nice ! I like them.
-
oooh yes this paint of those bretonian smooth and beautiful.
Anyway , mlkr your technique of inks is really good!
-
Those are absolutely perfect Men at Arms, great work!
-
Well, since you asked and if it was me to choose, how about you paint my army? ;D
-
Oh! Just to clarify - I did not paint these bretonnians. I just love the style of painting and would love to be able to do it sometime in the future. Love the clean... "Cartoony" look.
Chris - Ask me again in about 2 years ;) should be done with my OnG's by then :P

Bit late to the party but that's a lot of greenskins you have there! Thanks for the link to your painting guide as I am close to acquiring a small horde of warmaster greenskins myself and your guide will come in super handy. Awesome stuff ;D (I was not quite sure how to approach them but now have some confidence).
Don't know much about blood bowl but you have some great looking scenery going on there.
Thanks for sharing with us. Keep up the good work.
cheers
-
Hi Adams :) Yeah that linked guide (not mine) is really good to start off with!
Still havent found inspiration to continue the BB-pitch though.
BUT! There's this instead ^_^

Yeah, nice ! I long to see them painted.
-
The standards look pretty good in gobbo's hands
-
Oh those look great - is this to realy distinguish the command stands?
-
thanks guys ^^
Well, the standardbearing gobbos came about since a few weapons were brittle or broken off from shipping and such. So I was first planning on redoing the weapons, but happened to see my little drill and also some mini's from Polarfox. BAM! They will make very nice variations! Probably make a few more just because :D Will use these for a few of my Ogre units and the Goblin sculpts I am painting that doesnt have a standardbearer-strip.
I am planning to greenstuff the bannerpole's a bit thicker and fix a few things from the drilling. Ordering some bitz off of ebay for making more of these and add variation :D

Figured it would be pretty easy to convert some Ogres to standardbearers. WIP...

Good Idea!, I like the pose of the one in the middle. Nice

I'm looking forward to seeing those ogre standard bearers finished - smart thinking!

Bloody hell these are hardcore
-
Really great work there.
-
Oooh yes, very cool ! I love them !
-
First standardbearing Ogre's done. Two to go. One is waiting for bitz to arrive in the mail, the other needs some tricky greenstuffing that I'm not sure on just yet.
This banner's got a transfer from a 40K plaguemarine's transfersheet on it :)

Had to look up Phoar. Was not dissapointed ^^ thanks Rowly!

Looking very sharp, man!

phoar. A word that shows sexual atraction. Usually used in England. phoar! look at that guy, isn't he hot! by sunkissedbrunette
This forum extend my culture of english...
But well, i must admit this ogre is just great. Very nice job on it.

Thanks for the comments everyone ^_^
I am currently working on basing a lot of Gobbos for the tale of painters. It's pretty fiddly but I am going to be sooooo pleased with these :D
(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160517/40b583147927a092321ca4fe01fb0f95.jpg)
In other news I am very happy and upbeat because I just got new employment settled! This will of course result in less time for painting but more cash to acquire lead for the leadgod! (Cuz I dont have a few years painting worth already... Nooope...)
/Mlkr
-
Your work is EXCEPTIONAL ! Your bases, your painting job, your good ideas...
I wish you would lose your now job but it's not something i really wishes to you so let's say you will be able to contiune such marvels at slower rate and it will be acceptable.
Otherwise i write to your new employee. You're warned.
It's really a... Well... A gob army ! Looks like a greenish mess. I like the trolls here and there, the standard, and the gob arhcers are so numerous. It's a old blister hard to find those days. Did you recast them ? You have so many archers.
-
Wow, those look fantastic. I really like the bright colors and strong contrasts.
Are you using Vallejo colors for everything or are you using them alongside other paints?
-
Haha thanks Marell ^^ Will make sure to continue painting then ;) these are units I have slowly collected over ebay from when I started playing about 2-3 years ago - they are not too expensive for some reason. Great sculpts. Like them very much!
And thanks MaWo :) I am using Vallejo for the most part but I dont like their yellows so that's GW. Any washes are also GW - (mostly nuln oil on white to pick out detail and preshade gobboskin)
Last I brush on armypainter dip on everything. Strong tone. I use Vallejo Charcoal as black so I get a slightly darker shade:ing on that from the dip.
Thank you for the very kind wirds :) feels good to continue on! ^^

I think this is turning into the most convincing looking goblin horde I've seen for Warmaster.

It is a great work, man!

'Ere we go! 'Ere we go! 'Ere we go! WAAAAAAAAAGGGHHHHH!!!!
Here's four units of Goblin's painted during Tale of Warmaster Painters May 2016. I got a lot of hours in on these and am very pleased with results. Them some propah cunnin' and sneaky little gitz right there!

The basing for those goblins is fantastic! Proper horde effect and very imaginative, you must have the patience of a saint but it looks like painting and basing the figures individually is really effective.
-
Sometimes I feel it is hard to get a proper Warhammer flavour of exuberance into Warmaster stands, due to certain sculpts or the reality of how the models are made / based normally.
Then I see something like this and it makes me grin. <3
-
Yeah those gobbos are really awesome. You can tell you spent a lot of time on them. I reckon they could pass for 28mm scale figures if I didn't know better. Keep uo the good work.
cheers
-
I really love this army. So much things here and there.
The different height of the bases is a very interesting point. My bases are always flat and all the troops are on the same height. It's somethign i will change in the futur, now.
Did you thought of taking some Battle sized Squig to represend a giant squig for WM ? With gobs riding it ? Maybe a platform, etc ? A hero could be represented like that easily.
-
Thank you everyone! :) I am looking forward to putting more painted miniatures on the table!
I have ordered stuff to make a giant spider with goblins. Saw the idea here or on FB and decided to copy it ;)

Gorgeous! Or may I say; WAAAGH!!
-
Really great stuff, I always thought orcs and gobbos work best when they are colourful and over the top. =)
-
My preferred are clearly the gobs, but the whole army is great.
Did you think of a squig from Battle range to make a giant squig ? I imagine it with a howdah full of gobs... It could be a great mount for a gobelin general or character.
The spider is a good idea too of course.
-
Yeah The gobbos clearly pop out! Love them :) I notice I have found a style of painting I like and also the colourchoice just works and the small single sculpts really help with the Horde-look.
I have been thinking about rebasing the orcs and repaint their standards at least but its way down the line if I ever do that.
Wich company is Battlerange? I have been thinking about making a huge squig as a giant but it would be cool as a mount for a character :)
/Mlkr

I think he means the regular Warhammer Battle Range......
-
Ah :) gots it!
/Mlkr
-
Yeah, sorry, my english is not as good as i'd like.
There are so many squigs produced that i think you should be able to find one that fits your wants.
A big squig with a very small gob would be fun. A squig with a howdah and a pack of (half falling) squigs would be even better i think.
Could be used as general mounted or even Giant Proxy.
-
wyvern mount proxy for a hero, maybe?
-
Yeah, but it reduce the squig range to winged squigs. Not a problem with green stuff and bits, anyway. There are some nice fanmades like this on the net.
-
(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160526/233489471a9a2db2b995c05005804ebf.jpg)
Finally got some bits in the mail so work could be resumed ^^ Just need greenstuffing on the ogre with skeleton in cage and then its paintingtime + basing all ogres!
Also - bonus orc with night goblin standard. Not sure for what yet.
/Mlkr
-
Bloody hell that works surprisingly well.
-
Wow, so much inspiration on this thread! Beautiful work, and I'm green with envy!
A few weeks ago I bought some squigs, late 90s or early 00s - I'm not sure, with a plan to convert one of them into a colossal squig (a la forgeworld model). I think there's loads of scope for great centrepieces with these and I'm really interested to see what you come up with.

This will go under misc.
Tonight me and other members from our gamingclub are celebrating our 35th birthday that occurs this year. We do this by participating at the city's yearly "Cultural Night" that just happen to have "Gaming Culture" as the theme.
Sadly no Warmaster but some Space Hulk representing specialist games :D lots of boardgames, warmachine/hordes, Artemis, Cake!, Kids!, Painting and some X-wing on a very special gamingtable ;)
Enjoy :)

Thanks! We had a great time ^_^
Back to painting ^_^
My new job is keeping me away from my preciousssss mountain of lead but I have managed to do some greenstuffing on Ogre-banners and primed them for painting. I then thought on how to base them and came up with this:
They got lucky and found an Empire Wagontrain with a fresh supply of meat both butchered and alive ;)
It's just a tiny bit fiddly but I think I can pull it off. Will only be basing the standardbearing stand of 1 unit like this since I only have 1 complete Giantbase to play around with. The other units will get some bits and bobs to tie them all together.
(Also, I will only be doing one stand like this because when I said "It's just a tiny bit fiddly" I lied. Through my teeth.)

They do :) In this case though it's the daughter of one of our members hanging out with yet another member. No relations, but we are almost all like family anyways ^_^ It's a really nice club! Everyone is really friendly. They are painting a building I built for Mordheim :)
Time for bed! Hope to get my ogres all done this weekend! Maybe start my entry for tale of painters too ^_^

These Ogre's just dont want to be based. I have had them lying around a good while now waiting for inspiration to strike and when it does it goes haywire prompting me to start making custom banners... At least they are now painted! :D

But since I am doing some fiddly basing I also need to prepaint a base from a Giant-blister.
Progress is good but I could use some help!
I use Vallejo Game Colours and GW washes. Does anyone have a good technique for painting wood? I am not a fan of browns so at a loss on how to not screw this one up ;)
/Mlkr
-
The base is cool.
Good work with the ogres!
-
I' more in grey plus cream to paint wood than brownishes.
-
There was a nice tutorial on Uruk-hai on the GW site before they decided that they should charge money for such things (as if painting an army wasn't expensive enough already). It was a bit of an eye opener for me when it came to browns as they mixed in grey to highlight it. So perhaps a combination with marell's tip?
Also, unless the entire miniature is brown I think it's a rather neutral color that the eye isn't drawn to so it doesn't matter if you do it quick and easy, especially on a base. One of the Blue Table Painting artists, sorry for not recalling which one, also has said that if the miniature is bright the base should be dark and vice versa. Personally, I find that the only capital failure is dark miniature on a dark base but opinions may vary. As we say in Sweden (for the benefit of everybody else reading this); taste is like the bum, divided.
-
Progress. Went with Aquahog's tip on dark base for my colourfull Ogre's.
They are very angry cuz their favourite Blood Bowl team just lost. Again. Damn weedy snotling's! Yeah, that's the name of the team and a fitting one as such. The ensuing fight was good though! Altdorf will not be hosting any games anytime soon! Waaaaaaaaaaaagghhhhh!!!
/Mlkr
-
Huhuhu i love this last base and the storry that goes with it :)
-
Hilarious! The [Reikland] Reavers may have won the game but they lost the war! Your army has so much character. A wonderful source of inspiration.

Nice composition... and a horse on the right... eager to see what diorama comes.
Good work
-
Blimey these are amazing.
-
I long to see what will arrive to the horse too :)
-
He, I was just thinking of making the ogre holding the horses reins (Had to google that) as if it was captured from the broken wagon...
Now you guys kinda pushed me into inspirationmode overdrive and I got an idea I might be able to realize... Will take some bitz and sculpting to get right but it might just work...
I am slowly realizing I will never get these damn Ogre's based and ready for the table :P
/Mlkr
-
Yes you will. Your idea is fun. The ogres have the reins and that is all. If you have patience and talent with Green Stuff, you might want to sculpt a big ham for an other ogre :)
-
Slow going but I have been superbusy so I am ok with that.
I am doing 3 units with itsybitsy dioramas of a destroyed Empire wagontrain. 2 of them are now done! :D
I have more than 3 units painted but these will be based in a simpler, more straightforward way.
Anyways - here are a few pictures of 2 completed units with custom standards and small dioramas.

The third unit will be done when it's done. Trying to get myself to paint for this months painting-tale but just cant find the inspiration at the moment. Hopefully get started during this week and then putting some hours into it this coming weekend! :)

Looters, and hungry mob!
May I suggest cows, pigs or even a female or maybe some casuality marker?
Good work mlkr!
-
I think you should be very proud of what you've done so far.
-
Thank you both :)
The third unit will have a poor dead skirmisher fallen victim to the Ogres.
Great idea about some pigs! ^_^ I will order some from PolarFox Studios since I like them but didnt know what to use them for. Now I do! The rest of my Ogre-units will be rading some poor farmers pigsty getting some snacks for the road :P
Hope to get some painting and basing done later today also. /MM

Oooh an update i had missed !
The ogres are great ! Excellent painting job, as always. And the shaman with the spider looks really good.
Checking for your "The Chase" pack on ebay, i have seen it go for ,,10 USD... 10 USD max those last days. It's not for sale just now excepted, fortunately, this sale for only 75 GBP :D
-
Merry Christmas in advance and soon a happy new year :) May it be as good if not better than the current one. I pledge to get back into hobbying again since I miss it dearly. This fall I havent been feeling it at all and therefore no hobbying have been done. I hope to remedy this during 2017 :)
Worst hit to my hobbying was having my storageunit/mancave/hobbyroom broken into a few months back. Totally killed the mood and just made me go "f*ck it, I'm out".
I lost some stuff but actually got reimbursed from my insurancecompany. Khorne bless them! The real bad stuff is I no longer feel confident in keeping my paintingstation down there anymore. This makes it a bit harder to get stuff done.
Anyways - I've still been around here reading and watching and hope I can get back on track with my orcs and other projects in 2017. Never did stop buying stuff for the mountain so I need to put a dent in it again.
See you all around in 2017!(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161219/0c0789979f90409d1104f46f023c4656.jpg)(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161219/f2ec0ce70dc4500b11476ef18f42e170.jpg)

Slaanesh damn them. At least they where not intelligent enough to understand the value of those epic Tau vehicules.
I understand you don't feel ok to continue in the same place. In the other hand, maybe you can bring with you a suitcase with your basic stuff and figs you're working on at the moment, and take them back with you when leaving ?
Don't live in fear of seeing that again. It could be just one time. And maybe you can secure it better ?

Or just get a big black dog and put it in there. Or even better something that sounds like one. ;)

Did'nt really feel like painting but just forced myself to do something small. Fixed some toenails I'd forgotten on a unit of trolls and painted up the poor (now dead) Altdorfer whose wagontrain got wrecked by some maurading Ogres upset because their BB-team lost a game.
