Title: attack craft waves
Post by: yari on April 07, 2015, 01:21:01 AM
When an wave of attack craft are making their attack on an enemy ship, do they have to keep formation?

I had a line of fighters as a 'picket' in front of my ships with gaps too small to get through for a 20mm base.
My opponent blasted one fighter so there was a bigger gap  his attack craft could get through.

The wave was 8 strong assault boats in a 4 by 2 formation and he wanted to attack with all.  What happens now?
The formation could not fit through the gap (only a single 20mm base could get through at a time) so do the assault boats have to go through 1 at a time in waves of 1 or can they conga through single file?

Thanks

IIRC, yes, AC waves must keep formation. You can split larger waves up into smaller ones, as per the example you gave (good luck with that ;)), but they couldn't "conga" through.

Hope that helps!

As an aside, if you launch a wave of 8 AC, shouldn't they be in 3x3 formation because of the 2010FAQ?

Hmmm, not sure I thought the wording was that you had to create the wave in a fashion which made the least 'circumference' or outer distance. In the case of 8 markers, that would be a 2 x 4 blob, as a 3x3 blob with one missing would actually have an outer measurement of 14 edges, while a 2 x 4 would only have 12 edges.

hmm, that makes sense.
