Hi all,
Perhaps beyond expectations but it is that time of the year again:
GothiComp 2015
Following are the rules for GothiComp 2015, feedback appreciated:
Rules GothiComp 2015.
This is the eleventh annual GothiComp, and will be run in a similar way to last years events.
The Goal
The general aim of this competition is simply to encourage players to get painting and show off what they can do. I encourage people to enter no matter how good or bad their painting and converting skills are.
The Deadline
This competition will open right now: june 12, 2015 .The deadline for submissions is Wednesday 30st September 2015.
The Categories
Regarding all categories & entries: SpaceShip miniatures from all kind of companies are accepted.
General note: we encourage new ships not been shown in a previous edition of GothiComp. Of course vessels that have been completely repainted are allowed again.
The Capital Ship Category
A bit different then previous years: this category is for entries that are larger then 5cm in any direction. For example an Battlefleet Gothic Imperial Lunar Cruiser belongs in this category just as a Firestorm Armada Aquan Destroyer.
The community will vote on the entries as usual.
The Small ship category
Also a bit different then last year: in this category entries will need to be ships smaller then 5cm in every direction. As an example a Battlefleet Gothic Imperial Sword Class Frigate or an Intruder model from Ninjamagic. Entries may consist from 1 to 6 models.
The community will vote on the entries as usual.
In addition, there will be a 'conversion prize' chosen from either category. This will be a token prize for one entry based on the skill and style of any conversion work which has gone into the vessel, in an effort to encourage creativity in modelling as well as painting. This will be judged by a select panel. All entries are automatically submitted into both competitions simultaneously. The judges for the conversion prize are myself, Cybershadow and a third person.
The fleet category
And also here a change: a fleet is a group of spaceship vessels. The entry must consist of at least 7 models of any size. But for the purpose of a gallery it is ofcourse nice to see entries following somewhat of a guideline from their respective game or resembling historical or current day fleets in terms of numbers and ship selection.
The community will vote on the entries as usual.
The Prizes
Thanks to Battlegroup Helios (Mangozac & Vaaish) and Malika we have some great prizes this year:
Sponsored by Battlegroup Helios (www.battlegrouphelios.com):
- Small category: 1x Pack of Battlegroup Helios Helian Corvettes
- Capital category: 1x Battlegroup Helios Helian Dreadnought
- Fleet category: A selection of conversion parts from Mangozac at
Resin Addict
Sponsored by Malika:
- Conversion category: 3x Gunship Destroyers & 3x Carrier Destroyers

And finally one extra bonus prize to be won, sponsored by Gothmog Lord of Balrogs:
ASC 2.0
Submit your best example of what is in, or going to be in, the Additional Ships Compendium 2.0. This can be a conversion or a proxy, in either the capital ship or small ship categories. They do not have to match the diagrams in the document but must clearly represent a ship class/unique vessel found in the ASC 2.0. All entries except those made by Gothmog Lord of Balrogs will be eligible to win. Judging will be done by Gothmog, but the voting results will be heavily considered. Particular considerations will be given to vessels that truly capture the "Gothic" or "Grim-dark" feel of the Warhammer 40,000 Universe."
For more information on the Additional Ship's Compendium 2.0 and to see if your entry into the competition is applicable, visit the following thread:
http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=7287.msg63040;boardseen#new
The Pictures
You should submit a single picture per entry, no more. Each photograph should be no more than 3 megabytes large. The pixel width should not exceed 1024 x 768.
The Submission
To submit a picture of your vessel to this competition, you simply mail it at: comps@tacticalwargames.net
Make sure the header of the email contains the following: ship name / class name
Note that you do not have to be a member of the
http://specialist-arms.com
http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?wwwRedirect
boards to enter this competition but in order to vote you will have to sign up.
We will compile a gallery of the entrants which will be available online. This gallery will remain as a permanent fixture to the site, and so you will be able to browse the pictures in the future. Please note, I am sure that there will be a rush in the last 24 hours before the end of this competition, therefore please don't wait until the last few hours if you can avoid it.
The Voting
Voting will take place here on these boards. Entries will be split into heats. The winner of each heat will go through to the next round until a winner is determined. Please note that entries will be placed into heats in the order in which they are submitted here. Note: having multiple entries from one participant will be spread.
The voting period lasts 7 days.
The voting results will be shown after the poll ends.
Possible tiebreakers depend upon number of entries.
Note that the ship and/or class name will be shown, anonymous upon request otherwise name will be shown.
Additional Rules
All decisions are final, any prizes are non-negotiable and the competition organizers reserve the right to remove competition entries or request that they are resubmitted or altered. We will hopefully never need this stuff, but just in case...
That is it. Feel free to email me with any questions that you may have. Now, what are you doing still reading this? Get painting!
Have fun!

Heya,
spread the word of this competition!
And if someone likes to offer a prize: please contact me.
:)
-
Looks good. Can I clarify..... The 'capital ship' category is for any ship that is at least 5cm in any one direction, and the 'small ship' category should then be ships that are less than 5cm in EVERY direction?
-
Yes.
Also changed the fleet category numbers.
-
Awesome! I may actually be silly enough to put my pride on the line this year...

Wow! Thats fantastic and one of the fastest prize donations that I can remember!
-
Yup, that was some quick service this year!
Post has been updated.
Now, if people could be so kind to mention this competition at the various internet forums? Facebook? I will post it at dakkadakka, warseer and google+.
Enjoy!
-
Been spreading the word on various forums! :)

How many entries per category?
-
How many entries per category?
Same as every year: as many as you like to submit. :)
-
I'd like to offer an additional prize.
Best Addition Ship's Compendium 2.0 Vessel or Squadron (I need people's beautiful ships for the gallery)
Particular considerations will be given to vessels that truly capture the "Gothic" or "Grim-dark" feel of the Warhammer 40,000 Universe.
Prize (Winners choice)
-1 x Grimdark Bits BFG Heresy Marine Cruiser from shapeways in FUD
OR
-1 x Helian Escort Frigates from Battlegroup Helios
OR
-2 x Special Order Dice from Abyssal Products (12 dice, 1 green pack, 1 red pack)
-
Hey Gothmog,
that is a pretty cool idea. And a generous one on top of that as well.
But instead of adding it to the regular competition I think you could better start another thread on this and promote it as an add-on to the GothiComp 2015 competition.
This also because other forums on which GothiComp is promoted know nothing about your work on the ASC 2.0. So you could take this as an oppurtunity to promote the whole thing as well.
What do you think?
-
PMing you
-
Happy to read it is happening again! Didn't submit in a while now and I'm not sure if i can change it this year. Not playing space games besides X-Wing at the moment counteracts my motivation to paint those fleets.
Although i recently modified some long time laying around demiurg ships I'm not sure if i'll paint them. Nevertheless i'll follow the contest and maybe a wonder happens and i'll submit.
I posted the announcement translated into german in a short form over at gw-fanworld.net and tabletopwelt.de BFG and Firestorm Armada threads.
-
PMing you
Horizon, did you get the PM? Had a decent solution IMO
-
Hey,
Caine : thanks! You can also participate with repainted x wing models. :)
Gothmog: see pm :)
-
Would the CR90 Corvette count as capital ship or a whole fleet :-D
-
How big is the model?
-
If It is the x wing one is about 30cm
-
An Ork Space Hulk can be that size as well. So, allowed. :)
-
Plus, you can't really see scale in a photo without reference!!! ;D
-
Added the Gothmog - ASC - competition. :)
-
It's been a few years since I last entered, but I'm going to throw my hat in the ring this year! I've been working on some minis for Firestorm Armada that I'm particularly happy with 8).
-
And congratulations to Ruckdog for being the first one to sent his submissions!
8)
-
Woot!
I plan to send in some of the BGH stuff I've been doing here soon. Just trying to finish out a few models before then, :)
-
If the activity over at the MBS forums is any indication, I'd wager we will see more than a few Halo ships in this year's competition!
-
Just a month left. Time to see some entries! Got four so far.
Please bring this to attention on the various forums: GothiComp's deadline is coming near! :)

Just got it shouted out on the Long War Webcast. Going to blog and blast on Facebook as well. Getting my entries done too.
-
Pinned a post to the top of the BFG Facebook page, got a shout out on the Long War Podcast and Webcast, blogged about it, and asked the BG Helios page on FB if they could post about it. Should see entries trickling in I imagine. I am working hard on mine!
-
got some nid escorts done, hoping to bosh out a battle ship in the next few days and submit them all at the same time, gotta leave it til the last minute, everybody knows that ! :)

Yo,
I submitted a pic for every category, but I only got one confirmtion email from the single ship category - is this right?

Yup, got them all. :)
Only a few days left!

I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE ENTRIES!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I know!
The good news is we have enough entries to have a competition for all categories.
No Chaos vessel though but a real good variety nonetheless.

No chaos? What has the world come to. I guess I will have to enter some next year! ;D ;D ;D
How many entries were there? I tried to push the competition via my blog and the BFG Facebook Community. And was there alot of Drop Zone, Star Wars and Halo stuff?
-
Missed out again... Couldn't finish off my ships in time. Next year...

Number of entries:
13 Small Category
24 Capital Category
13 Fleet Category
And nothing from Halo, Drop Zone and Star Wars. Alas, next year!
-
Okay heats are on the way!
Remember: You vote for painting job. Judges vote for conversions.
:)
So Vote vote vote!
9 days for round one!
-
Very nice looking batch of entries folks!
-
Nice entries! I think some heats are a bit higher in quality than others, which might result in some early finals in my opinion.
At some point i lost track of actually painting someting for GothiComp. Maybe i can do it again at some point in 2050 or so :-D
-
Well my votes are done, and sadly that's all this year - with the birth of a second child and a job change, my hobby room has been a bit neglected in preparation for both.
But I want to congratulate all entrants this year, I'm stoked to see so many entries, and all of a great standard.
While it's likely there will be a few standouts in each heat I think that everyone should be congratulated, and encouraged to keep supporting our hobby - whether that's Winterman, OKB, BFH and others in creating incredible new designs, or everyone else who are either working with the classics or going somewhere in between with great modifications and customisations to suit their own desires.
Loving everyones work and can't wait to see what comes next for BFG :)
Rob
-
Thank you Rob ! we are working on different projects and doing our best to offer good alternatives to old GW's models.
