If this has been asked before I apologies in advance .
If your opponent has a regiment of infantry in column and you attack it with a unit of say cavelry , what supports count for the infantry when it comes to working out close combat results or say a brigade of infantry .
-
You can count support for any stand fighting only to its front. Each stand directly behind or to that stand's flank which is not confused or engaged can be counted as support.
So depending on where the cav contacts the brigade support will vary.
-
remember that support is STANDS giving support, no matter what unit they are from !

I believe any stand fighting to its front can be supported. It can be fighting to its front and flank (or possibly rear) at the same time and still get support.
