Title: WM High Elf Army attempt #3
Post by: adamsg01 on March 05, 2016, 10:49:27 AM
Well after many years since I started, then sold, then re-started, then sold and I have finally re-restarted my (obsession) with Warmaster again. So to celebrate I am thrilled to post some mugshot of my first brigade (ok partial as I don't have enough dosh to cover 4 units).

Still 2 unit of reavers ought to cause some issues for an opponent when heading up a flank I'd say.

Also have to comment on just how AWESOME the miniatures are. So detailed -I need my glasses these days (when I first started both Rick Priestley and I had hair) but I could at least see the miniatures (without glasses and a really bright light that is).

cheers

The elven line had crazy details, 10mm eyes?

They look good, here's to a finished army.

Thanks folks. Good to be back.

I worked out (I hope) how to insert the image directly into a post (so much better than linking off to my photobucket account). I am going for a safer blue theme (although red will also appear to help differentiate unit on the table). Anyway here are the reavers embedded this time - 200 points.
and
(http://i618.photobucket.com/albums/tt264/GusPhotobucket/Miniatures/Warmaster/20160304_215046.jpg)

And 4 units of archers that have been pending for some time that  I just finished last night - 300 points.

Woking on a mage, eagle flyer hero chappie, 2 bolt thrower units and 3 spear elf units. Piccies up as I go (but aiming for 1 unit a week to get through the unpainted horde. Got a dragon to do as well - such a great model.

500 points so far.

Looking good.

One unit a week is a decent goal- that's what I used to aim for (and hope to get back to).

Thanks for the support there guys. Got to stagger the delivery so I don't suffer from painters 'burn out'.

next up 2 bolties - I cheated a bit with these as they were mostly painted when I got them but I touched them up to match, ink'ed then flocked and wella.....130 points.

How many points are painted, now? You seem to be going through them at a fair pace!
Title: Re: WM High Elf Army attempt #3
Post by: adamsg01 on March 10, 2016, 08:03:54 AM
I have 2300-2500 points of troops either unpainted, undercoated or part painted. I am tackling the quick wins by cleaning up partially painted first. I did paint one unit of spear elves from scratch so yeah that slowed me down a lot. Here are photos  of my 3 spear elf units - have 2 more units undercoated though a lot of spear tips have broken off - not sure if I will try and convert the broken ones into Phonenix guard.

I might try and add the point stats as I go as I should probably be targeting a force in 1000 point increments I guess. Thanks for the idea  :)

Here are the first 3 units of spear elves now finished (did flocking just last night) - the middle unit with plain shield are the from scratch unit. Probably should add similar lines to the shields and banners to match the other units. Looking closely I may add some more flock to the front of the bases you can still see the metal base through. Another 180 points!

Hope you good folks like them.

Total points now at 1,080.
cheers
Title: Re: WM High Elf Army attempt #3
Post by: adamsg01 on March 16, 2016, 08:05:04 AM
So I updated the previous post with the points value (but need to look in to the legality of the force). Anyways nevenr let that stop me so I'd like to present 2nd brigade of Spear elves, accompanied by hero adn mage.

So that's another 180 +80 +90  = 350 points making total of 1,430.

Out of interest do I need to pay extra or a horse mount for my Generals - I have been using the bases price but couldn't see that it costs me more? Anyone help me out here as maybe I have spent a few more points than I have accounted for.

cheers chaps

Horses are just to look cool- they cost nothing, and do nothing. High Elf mount options (that cost points) are chariots, eagles and dragons.

Looking good- and fast painting!

Those are looking awesome!  I bought about 1000 points of High Elves a few months ago, but they are low on the priority list at the moment, maybe you can inspire me.  Can't wait to see the rest of them, nice stuff!

Also I agree with Geep, your speed is impressive!

Thanks for the info Geep (and to other commenters as well for the encouragement). Managed to find my hard cover rules and note its 60cm movement for heroes except for those with flying mounts, which is up to 100cm.

Here my next lot - a demi-brigade of Silver helms though I need to finish off the bases to match the rest of the force - 220 points (add to 1430 already = 1650 points so far)

And a group mugshot after adding magnets to the bases.

The Elf painting is taking a bit of a hit as got distracted with an undead Skull chukka and bone giant I repainted (thanks ebay). Also painting up 28mm figs to sell so this is getting lower priority for a little while. Finished off some more characters over the weekend but dragon need more work so hopefully more photos for you all soon.

take care.

Title: Re: WM High Elf Army attempt #3
Post by: adamsg01 on March 31, 2016, 11:04:01 AM
Sadly Marell they are only (mere) silver helms. I once had a real blister of dragon princes and I got an amazing amount for them on ebay which of course I regret sellign but such is life. I think I will just have a go at converting a Silver Helms regiment into Dragon Princes, using greenstuff, down the track (yes - it is a rather long and windy track for sure).

As as promised, and sorry for the delay - life has a habit of side tracking with non-hobby stuff, I present le Dragon! I think I should not have used the Army Painter soft tone on his wing cartilage bits but still he will do. Who doesn't love a pretty Dragon in their warmaster army. This one will be a mount for hero I suppose as I already have a general so that going to be another 100 + 80 points - ouch. So add to 1650 makes for 1830 points - nearly there @ 2k painted. According to my inventory spreadsheet I have 2395 points worth of figures so the end is in sight (then onto empire, undead and orcs )

Hope you all had a happy easter and got to play some games - esp. warmaster.

Howdy folks,
Latest addition is a hero on a budgie. So that is 1830 + hero on eagle = 100 pts = 1930 point pained of Warmaster High Elves so far.

Hey marell le fou -  good point on pretty basic basing on the Dragon mate. For the moment I am going for a mass production style theme but I agree A dragon should have something pretty sweet for its base. Just need some Dark Elf casualties to help 'spice' up the base. Seem dark elves are a  rare thing nowadays let alone as casualties. Will look to improve the base down the track.

cheers

Don't worry about all that, if you start fussing about that kind of thing you'll be where I am, which has been only painting one unit per month for the past few years, which is no way to make an army!

Good job and if you really don't like them in a couple of years time you could always rebase / repaint them.
Title: Re: WM High Elf Army attempt #3
Post by: marell le fou on April 06, 2016, 09:39:43 PM
I agree, go on ! And you will be back at this base one day, after dozens of games played, when you will fall on a pack of dark elves for a low price or a trade.

For now keep on painting ! You already have a nice small force and it's growing quickly.

Any picture from the back and up of the eagle ? The picture is not very good to see wings.

Post by: adamsg01 on April 17, 2016, 12:49:17 PM
Howdy Folks,

Well I managed a recent purchase of some pre-painted warmaster High Elves which needed a little touching up but were pretty perfect match for my other figs. Without further ado may I introduce the following:

3 Spear-elves, 1 archers, 1 chariot, 1 silver helms, 1 bolt thrower, some characters (wizard and hero) so figured another 180 + 75 + 95 + 110 + 65 + 90 + 80 = 695 points.

I also just finished my first unit of chariots so added them to the family portrait :o) so that is another 95 points giving 790 extra points to the already painted 1,930 so that is 2,720 points so far.

Currently painting up another 2 units of spear-elf's. Figured 3 spear-elf units, in column, with a unit of archers in line in front  (all touching bases) is a good deployment (at least in theory, for support factors). Still have another unit of chariots, Dragon, Eagle rider and at least 1 more unit of archers to go. Looking to purchase 2 more units of reavers also in the future (and maybe some phoenix guard too). SO maybe 3500 poins worth. Better get started on my undead soon to have someone to fight, although i do have Empire, Orc and gobbo forces in the pipeline, and a cameo chaos force just for fun. I will stay away from dark elves, dwarves and Bretts as just too tempting and I still have to pay of my house yet.

Take care and thanks for your interest.

cheers

That's a very nice and fast army boost. My High Elf army was bought pre-painted, with the intention of repainting, but it is really too good to require it- and an instant force is very nice!
Title: Re: WM High Elf Army attempt #3
Post by: adamsg01 on April 30, 2016, 04:21:49 AM
Life has been a tad crazy but, after longer than expected, here are the latest recruits to the Elf army.

a) 2 units of Spear-elfs (120 pts) - sadly quite a few broken spears but mostly on the back ranks.
b) 1 unit of Archers (75 pts)
c) 1 more Wizard (100 pts)
d) 1 unit of Eagles for some flanking action (70 pts) but boy were they tricky to line up.

So adding another 365 points painted. Total now is 2,720 + 365 = 3,085 points.

Next unit is another chariot unit and am also thinking of doing up a base of swordmaster individual figures (from command set) into a single base of their own to be an elite (but small) unit. Should be fun.

@Marell added some mugshot of great eagle for you - nothing spectacular I am afraid :o).

@jchaos79 - thanks for the comment and yes they match really well.
@Geep - As much as I enjoy painting my figs pre-painted is a great alternative to having a table top ready army. Hope you had a chance to use your lads.

cheers

Adamsg great work, swordmaster unit is a excellent idea. In fact the figures  of swordmaster are exactly the sameas command set but in strip.

You did a unit of eagles, I hate basing the eagles... it is so dificut to get the correct configuration. But I see you solve the problem adding some sort of high ground. smart.
Title: Re: WM High Elf Army attempt #3
Post by: adamsg01 on May 07, 2016, 06:51:46 AM
Thanks for the tip on the Swordmasters jchaos79. I figured they were the same minis but are based individually so will have to see how I can squeeze them in but still look like they came that way (i.e like I bought the blister version).

Yeah the great eagles I bought already based but had to pry off one and stuck some cork underneath to look like a bigger rocky crag to perch on. Don't look too close as it is not particularly well implemented but will do but at least they can rank up neatly. I have to admit was the least enjoyable bit but theya re still awesome sculpts though so worth the extra effort.
cheers

You've really powered through painting them!

It makes a huge difference having painted armies on the battlefield facing one another, and attracts new people to the game. =)
Title: Re: WM High Elf Army attempt #3
Post by: adamsg01 on May 22, 2016, 05:35:29 AM
Finally I manage to finish off another unit. This time more chariots:

So that another 95 points to the 3,085 points so now have a total of 3,180 points.

I also did up the single base elite troop (bodyguard for my general or a mage cameoing as Teclis perhaps, as I don't have the real teclis model). These are made up from the couple of swordmaster figures you get in each command blister. I will not add them as an official unit to my points total unless I can field the full 3 bases by picking up some spares - have 2 individuals to add to the next base but will need lots more.

Thanks guys. Checked the opened blister lead pile (not quite the Himalayas there Stormwind but almost as daunting) I still have left to do and found another unit of great eagles, a bolt thrower and silver helms and a mage. Then I will have to check my unopened blister  pile but reckon about 3750 points once I am done so most of the work is behind me now which is very motivating. Work getting in the way of my spare painting time but near the finish line now lads but slower to get th eunits done.

Been a wee while since my last update where I was at 3,180 points. I have now completed another (4th) unit of Silverhelms (110 pts) plus another Hero on Great Eagle (100 pt) so now at 3,390 points painted.

Also picked up 2 more blister of Ellyrian Reavers so super stoked on that front as I only have two painted so more work ahead. Oh and yes and (thanks to Marell - good dealing with you my friend :) )) some Phoenix Guard and another bolt thrower unit on the cards. More cool unit for the painting pile. Progress is slower than I'd like but hopefully will free up some more time post busy work.

cheers

Well been a while between posts and my High Elves have stagnated somewhat but there is hope with the new year. Still painting when I get a chance but distracted by real life and other shiny things. Anyway, enough excuses from me,  to renew my interest I rediscovered my painted spear-elves and archers and took some shots:

Also started on some Empire with 2 batteries of great cannons and hellblasters and general base. Still working on about 5 Xbows and halberdiers also. I should probably rename my origin title (coz i want to also paint some of my orcs and undead, oh and chaos guys too).

Empire arty...

and some of the unpainted lads..about 26 units..but there are more elsewhere :'(
