Title: Proxies - how to use heavy chariots on WF bases
Post by: GrumpyOldMan on April 10, 2016, 12:17:52 AM
Hello

I was looking at proxies for the Indus army and then I realised that the historical heavy chariots wouldn't fit on a 20 x 40 base.

How do others handle this? Should I just use the light chariots?

Cheers

Hi Grumpy,

In warmaster (fantasy) all chariot must be in short edge frontal (20*40mm), so I guess you should trimm horses in your model.

In Warmaster ancient, heavy chariot and scythed chariots are a basing exception to the normal basing convention , because they are so big they are based on 40*40mm (double base).

Warmaster ancient appendix 2 dealing with base sizeing gives you the follow rule just in case you switch from 20mm to 40mm front edge. It says add+1 attack modifier when charging and pursuing. Note that is the same as the standard rule for Shock Cavalry mounted to the long edge.

Hope it helps

I got lucky with a buy-it-now a few years back and got a GW Dwarf balloon.  When I proxy it as a gyrocopter, I simply place a flocked stand on the table and say to my opponent "that's the gyrocopter".  The balloon is then placed somewhere near the 'empty' base.

In my next army project (undead) I'm going to run it as both TK and VC stats.  The flyers are differently based in these two lists so I'm going to create a set of empty bases to represent the narrow-based TK flyers.  I'll then place the wide-based minis on or behind them.

With those chariots you could do something similar?

Hi guys

Thanks for the replies. I'll have to have a play around and see what best suits me.

Cheers

Could you base 1 chariot on 40x40, and one on 20x40 (with less horses).

Then if you loose 1 stand you take off the 20x40 based one, if you loose a second stand you swap the 40x40 base for the 20x40 base.

You loose a little flexibility in forming formations with the unit - but I never found that irregular formations where used that much in WM.
