Hi all,
A little late but, well, here we are again:
GothiComp 2016
Following are the rules for GothiComp 2016, feedback appreciated:
Rules GothiComp 2016.
This is the twelfth annual GothiComp, and will be run in a similar way to last years events.
The Goal
The general aim of this competition is simply to encourage players to get painting and show off what they can do. I encourage people to enter no matter how good or bad their painting and converting skills are.
And although the name is still GothiComp this painting competition is for all miniatures from all space ship ranges you can find. :)
The Deadline
This competition will open right now: june 26, 2016 .The deadline for submissions is the 30st September 2016.
The Categories
Regarding all categories & entries: SpaceShip miniatures from all kind of companies are accepted.
General note: we encourage new ships not been shown in a previous edition of GothiComp. Of course vessels that have been completely repainted are allowed again.
The Capital Ship Category
A bit different then previous years: this category is for entries that are larger then 5cm in any direction. For example an Battlefleet Gothic Imperial Lunar Cruiser belongs in this category just as a Firestorm Armada Aquan Destroyer.
The community will vote on the entries as usual.
The Small ship category
Also a bit different then last year: in this category entries will need to be ships smaller then 5cm in every direction. As an example a Battlefleet Gothic Imperial Sword Class Frigate or an Intruder model from Ninjamagic. Entries may consist from 1 to 6 models.
The community will vote on the entries as usual.
In addition, there will be a 'conversion prize' chosen from either category. This will be a token prize for one entry based on the skill and style of any conversion work which has gone into the vessel, in an effort to encourage creativity in modelling as well as painting. This will be judged by a select panel. All entries are automatically submitted into both competitions simultaneously. The judges for the conversion prize are Cybershadow, Mangozac and myself.
The fleet category
And also here a change: a fleet is a group of spaceship vessels. The entry must consist of at least 7 models of any size. But for the purpose of a gallery it is of course nice to see entries following somewhat of a guideline from their respective game or resembling historical or current day fleets in terms of numbers and ship selection.
The community will vote on the entries as usual.
The Prizes
Pending but Harec may gave something in store for us :)
The Pictures
You should submit a single picture per entry, no more. Each photograph should be no more than 3 megabytes large. The pixel width should not exceed 1024 x 768.
The Submission
To submit a picture of your vessel to this competition, you simply mail it at: comps@tacticalwargames.net
Make sure the header of the email contains the following: ship name / class name
Note that you do not have to be a member of the
http://specialist-arms.com
http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?wwwRedirect
boards to enter this competition but in order to vote you will have to sign up.
We will compile a gallery of the entrants which will be available online. This gallery will remain as a permanent fixture to the site, and so you will be able to browse the pictures in the future. Please note, I am sure that there will be a rush in the last 24 hours before the end of this competition, therefore please don't wait until the last few hours if you can avoid it.
The Voting
Voting will take place here on these boards. Entries will be split into heats. The winner of each heat will go through to the next round until a winner is determined. Please note that entries will be placed into heats in the order in which they are submitted here. Note: having multiple entries from one participant will be spread.
The voting period lasts 7 days.
The voting results will be shown after the poll ends.
Possible tiebreakers depend upon number of entries.
Note that the ship and/or class name will be shown, anonymous upon request otherwise name will be shown.
Additional Rules
All decisions are final, any prizes are non-negotiable and the competition organizers reserve the right to remove competition entries or request that they are resubmitted or altered. We will hopefully never need this stuff, but just in case...
That is it. Feel free to email me with any questions that you may have. Now, what are you doing still reading this? Get painting!
Have fun!

Oh... and all of you: stir it up. Advertise GothiComp everywhere. Friends, Facebook, Google+, Instagram, Pinterest, etc etc etc ;D
-
I will try to throw a stone to the Spanish hive :P, the French comunity need some competition ;D.
I am starting the cloning process next week, if it is sucessfull I think I will have some interesting prices ::)
Worst case scenario (I fail at clonning) I will make from scratch a ship of any BFG race choosen in the forum.
-
I'd like to do the asc 2.0 bonus prize again.
I will promote on Facebook and my blog. Will also reach out to some manufacturers to the Long War/spikey bits try and get them to promote it.
-
Thanks!
Gothmog, I can transfer the rules from last year?
And Mangozac will be a judge again this year for the conversion prize. 8)
-
Cool, i'm glad i got to paint and convert some ships this year so i'll be able to take part again.
-
I'll be entering! Paint time depending I should have an entry for each class. Two of my friends are very interested too, I'll try to get them involved.
A painting competition I entered on another forum had a rule where we had to submit pictures of the undercoated but unpainted models; I guess we don't have to do that on here?
Cheers
-
Welcome,
And indeed not needed to incude such a picture.
:)
-
Great (as I've already started painting!). Looking forward to uploading some finished ships pics as soon as one is done =D
-
Horizon,
Same rules, same prizes for the ASC 2.0. Do I need to make another thread as well again? Sorry it took me so long to come back to this!
-
No worries, I'll copy it. :)
-
One entry done and emailed off. :)
-
Only a few weeks left!
-
September 30 is coming close! If you still want to enter this glorious competition: hurry hurry! :)
-
I'm painting as fast as I can! :'(
-
Heh, I just started yesterday...
-
Submitted mine last night. Looking forward to seeing everybody else's entries, there's always a fantastic quality of work in this competition :D
-
Gotta catch'em all!
Anyway, kinda busy this weekend and next few days. But I'll try to get the galleries & voting up by next week.
Oh, While enough ships have been submitted a fast count mentioned that there have been seven escort entries. Four being from one participant.
Keep it a separate category or add them to the ships?
-
Personally I like this category and would like to see it continue, although as I submitted three entries to it I do have to admit to a certain vested interest. Might there be some way to split capital ships category into more than one?
-
Can't wait to see all the entries! Really looking forward to it.
Perhaps with the Escort category, keep it this year and do all 7 entries as a single heat? A 1-round competition.
It's kind of nice to have a seperate category!
-
Well if you only have 7 entries for the escorts, I'm guessing not all of my entries actually made it to you. I submitted (or tried to) 8 escort entries... I'm curious which ones actually made it to you.
-
Heh, fast counting is never good. I have enough escorts.
@ hobodabobo:
I got a lot. You did mail one cruiser two times though.
-
Haha, sorry. I kind of lost track of which ones I sent. I got my whole Nid fleet painted in the last couple months, so I thought I'd submit it. Sorry for the overload.
-
It is beginning!!! Place your vote on the best painted entries. Judges, as always, pick the best conversion!
Polls for fleets & small ships are up. Ship Category will follow later.

Argh! The french BFG forum did miss the final day to send its creations this year! Shame on us!

Lol.
The French community can still vote though. ;)
And the entries can be saved for 2017.
-
Boy, those pictures are small... :o
-
If you open the galleries I linked a few posts ago you can see larger variants.
-
<- is a idiot
I'll go stand in the corner now. :-[
-
Finals are up!
Vote wisely on the best painted entries to determine the 2016 winners.
Even though EagleWarrior did make a nice gesture I went on let him win the small category... A deserved win is a deserved win!
-
And we have our Winners:
Fleet Category:
Devastatus Voss Armageddon Fleet - OSJClatchford
Small Ship Category:
Firedagger Squadron Hawk & Falcon - EagleWarrior
Ship Category:
Tzeentch Warp City - void_dragon
Congratulations to all winners! And to all others who participated with entries and/or voted!
The conversion winner is still being decided on. :) Stay tuned for more.
If Harec would kindly report in. :)
Onto next year!

Congratulations to OSJClatchford and void_dragon for well deserved wins, and well done everyone else for some excellent entries. :D
-
Well thats surprising! Never thought I had a chance there, considering the quality of the other entrants. Indeed congratulations be to eaglewarrior and voiddagon. This was nice to see bfg getting so much deserved attention... Some truly inspiring entries this year!
-
Aaah I never would have guessed! I feel really lucky. There were such a large number of excellent entries. Lord Borak's massive battleship in particular deserves a mention as both an excellent piece and an extremely close 2nd place. Well done everyone - the entries were great and the standard was very high. I always look forward to seeing them all revealed. Time to start thinking about next year!
-
Congrats everyone.
Thanks Void Dragon. That station was awesome so it deserved to win. I'm very chuffed with a 2nd place, especially as it's my first ever foray in GC :D Just one vote out though *mutters* Next time Gadget
-
And the almighty judges have judged!
It was difficult with the many conversions this time, think OSJClatchford and EagleWarrior, we did find a winner:
Lord Borak his Invicta Fidem Dreadnought!
Congrats!
-
Such excellent work by everyone! I remember seeing the construction shots of your battleship (well, dreadnought :P), @Lord Borak, I'm glad the hard work was recognised!
Next year maybe I'll check the voting dates before the voting is closed... but still, Gothicomp remains a shining standard for miniature spaceships everywhere!
-
Very well deserved win to lord borak . That dreadnought looks like a missing piece of the gw design studio's work. Like an official release that never happened.espescially the way the weapons are still modular. Great stuff. However I must comment on the absolute insane amount of detail to be found on any of eaglewarrior's vessels. They really are above and beyond. You all make me want to do better. In the end is that not the intended, nay desired, effect of a competition? ;)
-
Lord Borak his Invicta Fidem Dreadnought!
I seriously did not see that one coming. :o Thank you Kindly!
-
Couldn't agree more - well done Lord Borak!
It will be a great addition to the Hall of Fame.

Hi.
I'm a new member here - looks like a great community - I was referred here from Yaktribe (i'm a regular Necromunda player)
I have recently bitten the bullet and undercoated & assembled my BFG fleet that has been mouldering-away in storage for an absolute age - some of the stuff I've seen here has really really inspired me.
There is nothing like a competition to get the blood flowing and motivate me to get stuff done, so I have one question?
When is the next one of these annual competitions set to commence...? and do we have to set-up a WIP (work in progress) thread to validate the entries or something? - or can we just work-away and then submit the final image for the category we decide to enter before the deadline?
I'd love to know / have juts a tad more guidance on this as a n00b...
Cheers!
-
Submission entry usually are in July and August
Congrats to all the submitters btw :)

Hey,
next year will see a new competition.
There is no need for a WIP-thread, we never had a validating aspect to the entries. We believe in good sportmanship. I have a good eye on official models and what is kitbashed or copied but usually participants tell me if a ship submitted by them is not one of their own creating (eg they did paint them but not build them).
But if you would to create a wip-thread that is allowed as well.
So, see you back in a few months. :)
