Title: Gunnery Chart Modifiers Question
Post by: Blacksails on July 14, 2016, 04:48:16 PM
First post here, though some of you may have seen me on other forums.

Getting back into BFG with some people and I had a question about how to apply gunnery table modifiers.

Let's say I have an Overlord with a TM.  I know that no modifier can make you go beyond either end of the chart, but how is the order of operations done?  Are all shifts simultaneous?  How does it work if you have a left shift (my Overlord with TM) shooting at an abeam escort squadron through a BM?  Or the opposite, shooting at a defense platform through a BM.

I can't modify beyond either side, so do I just cancel them out and use the farthest right column (for the escort example)?

If they cancel out opposite shifts, then I'm assuming multiple shifts would work the same way and you only shift the direction and amount by the uncancelled shifts?

I'm probably over thinking this.

Welcome Blacksails,

For the gunnery table you apply all modifiers.
So for an abeam escort look up that column on the table.
Apply the shift for the Targetting Matrix.
Apply the shift for the blastmarkers
Apply a shift for range if needed.

The order in which the shifts are applied doesn't matter.

And the most right column is the lowest, so further right shifts are negated. And the same on the left side.

So, yeah, you are overthinking it. ;)

Correct.  Left shifts cancel out right shifts and vice versa.  Cancel out any shifts that conflict and then apply any left, stopping at the edge of the chart.

That makes sense to me.  I was overthinking that there was some potential order that needed to be followed.

Thanks guys!
