Title: [BFG] Javier's Shipyard: Tau Merchant Class Proxy
Post by: Alchemy on August 19, 2016, 05:35:15 PM
Well, I'm expanding my son's Tau fleet  :) for an incoming caampaign at home. As it is almost impossible to get Tau Merchants, started to work on a proxy... after looking in several starship modeler's page. I've decide to start with a promising Ground Zero vessel. I always though that Tau vessels looks "modular", so I add some of freighter modules to the basic hull.

After gluing the side modules, with the help of some old pieces from a 1:35 truck, I've made the railgun batteries.

For ion cannos, I've add an elevation to the weapons hull deck.

And now, the bridge and turres. Initially I though to construct the bridge with plasticard, but still some spares of the 1:35 truck made my life easier....

Those are a really cool! The matching colour scheme helps but they match up perfectly with the GW Tau model.

Now I'm going to google ground zero stuff :D

That is a very nice proxy. Fits the feel of the original models. Nice work :)

Well thank you very much for some ideas for tau proxies.
They have been a thorn in my side no end and now I have a few ideas running around my brain, I just need to catch them and draw them out haha  :)

Very nice! I agree with the others, the feel of the ship is very much in keeping with the first Tau fleet design!

I like both myself but prefer the original as yourself.
They looked more like a young race that theu were rather than advanced. Plus the old ones had the addition of being modular so could be made quite different. They also didn't lpok too imposing which I liked for a fleet that went out to mainly colonise/discover/explore rather than conquer.
