So my plan is:

I will finish the turkish army. So, 2x azabs and characters (music band, kid-slave caravane, sultan and jenizeer soup-pot).

If I manage to do it, I think I try to finish the myceanic army (2x troyan infantry, 2x chariots, characters).

I'm taking a break from skeletons and will be painting two units of Norse Bondsmen (Copplestone Horse Tribes)

I am "meant" to be polishing off some High Elves but I am so sick of the sight of them that I took a break and dug out about a dozen Empire blisters and glued, based and began undercoating them.

No promises just yet, I think I just want to get the Empire in a state that if I get the urge, I can immediately dig them out and begin painting them.

such lovely place for working. It breaths peace and confort!

3 glasses? let me guess, one with water for the painting, another with water for your thirst and the last one.. vodka I suppose... ;)

Title: Re: Tale of Warmaster Painters - October 2016
Post by: Stormwind on October 03, 2016, 12:55:39 AM
Ha ha, vodka would perhaps stop my hands from shaking!

I usually have one pot for washing metallics, one for darker high pigment colours and the other for lighter colours. I am fussy about dirty water so having three pots means I have fewer trips to the sink to clean them!

I am going to treat myself to a super duper lamp...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00V9YW41O/ref=s9_wsim_gw_g201_i1_r?ie=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=&pf_rd_r=51SZHH79HVEAVY5TK0FZ&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=dcb27311-a8e2-406e-868b-7d9b32e7f75a&pf_rd_i=desktop

Something like this, especially as winter nights draw in...

I usually change the water.. let me see... once per tale, that means every month...

Dark dark water (beacuse I prime with black and use the same water also for cleaning the big brush of priming)....

I now that sounds terrible, but belive me, I steal minutes for painting in my nighttime and I am not wasting time with water.

Bondsmen in progress - not much to look at here unless you squint. I've greenstuffed a few extra beards and the command stand is made from an Old Glory viking command flanked by a couple of Copplestone horse tribes.

Looking good!, nice idea mix old glory stuf with copplestone.

On the right side of the picture there is a ¿magister millitum? figure completing the battle line?

I see also in the background you still have one of those bottles from old citadel. I think hexagonal or octogonal bottle... I can remember those times

First unit of the month. It represent a kid-slave caravan. It was a common practice from the very beginning of the islam world (Turks and Fatamids did), to take captive kids and rise them as slave-warriors in the Faith. Some times those kids were kidnapped other times demand as tribute to subjugate territories. The Jenizars and other elite units from different ages were made in this way.

I was inspired with Mihael Viteazul aka The last crusade film. In the first half hour of the film shows this practice, when turkish take the children of the walachs as tribute.

Yes, there are a couple of random vikings in there - Magister Militum and another from Pendraken, I think.

I've still got some original Citadel Colour Paint Set bottles somewhere from 1985. Totally dried up of course.

wow that makes sense then... I though you had them in use  :P
I read somewhere that those pigments/paints are still available. Citadel those years bought the pigment to Coat DArms and rebottle the pigment and change the name... you know.... "rotten flesh" or "boubonic brown". Then GW made their own colours, but nowdays you can still buy Coat DArms which still making the same pigments.

Cote D'Arms are def. still available:

http://www.blackhat.co.uk/coat-darms/

I haven't explored them yet, myself.  Apart from GW I have just been trying Vallejo.

I used to have some of those hex bottles too and amazingly they still hold up today!

A unit of azabs (turk archers)

a jenizar command. They use a brass pot as standard or a symbol of command. The command was cooker titles, like asci basi (Chef of the kitchen) or corbaci basi which means "soup deliverer" and his command is one orta (regiment) that could be as a coronel....  sooo crazy, looks like cheap-fantasy army.

Here's some of my work:

A swap and big windmill:

Watchtower:

A Bridge:

Some Chaos Knights:

For some reason I am having a hard time motivating myself to paint those Orcs.  They are partially painted but I am just having a hard time doing it.

Yup!  Mostly foam, basla wood and plaster. Though the watch tower stones are from some model rail road stone wall stickers.

Thanks gents!  And yes, the swamp was all scratch built, and it was a lot of fun.  I had never used water effects before, but I am happy with the result.  I eventually plan on making some river sections so I can actually bridge water, not just a grassy ravine.

Spot on. The norseman second from the right also has two painted on his shield - one or two on the back row have the same.

These are subtle, southern coast Norscans - the type who trade with the Empire.
