Title: Canonball!
Post by: Dave on January 19, 2018, 10:20:16 PM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIE1BpW2zyw

I'm hoping to commission a light, horse-drawn cannon soon. Something that could gallop all over the field. Would people be interested? The cost of additional pieces and crew wouldn't be outside the realm of Kickstarter stretch goals too. My thoughts were:

Heavy Cannon
Mortar
Ribauldequin

Thoughts on those? Any particular order I should put them in for stretch goals? Anything else I should add?

I'm afraid I didn't join the past couple of kickstarters because I have so much in the way of equivalent Empire troops / cavalry I couldn't justify any more.  In essence, I was quietly waiting and hoping you'd get to light horse drawn cannon like this.

My personal order of interest would be:

Horse-Drawn Cannon
Mortar
Ribauldequin
Heavy Cannon

I'm pretty much a +1 to Stormwind's post. The postage costs have also been off putting lately.

Horse-Drawn Cannon
Mortar
Ribauldequin
Heavy Cannon

I think that would be my order of preference too. I have plenty of heavy cannon from GW Empire

Makes sense. I'm hoping to be able to offer a limbered and unlimbered canon in one pack, with six crew for $10. That'll depend on the weight of the canons though.

Unfortunately, I can't do much about the postage cost. USPS charges have been going up and up. The best I can offer is combining with another person to split the cost.

I'd be interested.  Although my artillery park is probably already full by any objective measurement, it's always nice to add in some variety!

I’d be interested in cannon. My order of preference:
Horse drawn cannon
Heavy cannon
Rebauldequin
Mortar

Mainly because the dogs of war proxies should be the priority (IMO), the second two can proxy for empire units, and as far as I know mortars are just “counts as” for cannon in the empire list.

A good opportunity for stretch goals, I would think. I don’t remember Warmonger ever doing that.

I would be interested in a horse-drawn cannon, and also the ribauldequin (particularly if it happens to look a lot like a dwarf organ gun).

I'm interested

Light cannons - so I can use them as a DOW unit.

Any order for further weapons - doesn't worry me.

I would be interested in [...] the ribauldequin (particularly if it happens to look a lot like a dwarf organ gun).

This was 100% my thinking, too, but I wasn't sure if I should say it out loud...  :-X

People don't have a bunch of Dwarf organ guns already? Huh, must be a New England thing. We have Dwarf organs flying every which way up here.

I just made my first WM order, and am really looking forward to getting the minis (I meant to *years* ago, but better late than never, I spose?).

I'm using them to build an Empire army, so I'd like artillery that's usable for both DoW and Empire, if possible. After artillery, do you have any plans for characters?

Title: Re: Canonball!
Post by: Dave on February 01, 2018, 02:32:16 PM
I do, I'm not sure if it'll happen immediately though. I don't see people buying more than 1-2 packs of characters, which means recapping the capital expended to get them sculpted will take that much longer. My thought, at this point, is to find a unit for the next army that will sell well. Hopefully well enough to get the next unit for that army done as well as the characters.

I've commissioned the light, horse-drawn cannon from Bob. Pics as I get them.

Yep, I see your point about the characters. No point in losing money on a unit!

Looking forward to seeing the artillery.

You could always use some of the command figures from the existing units to reduce the number of New sculpts required.

That's the plan, but I'd like a few more to make it worth it for people.

Did the organ guns ever get released? I thought they were a super rare thing that people only had a couple of in their collections.

Never released, they're common in New England though.

Got my first WiP shot from Bob. I've asked him to reduce the size of the wheels and the length of the limber.

New WiP shot. I mentioned to Bob that the crewmen look small already.

Mmm... A little bit small, maybe... But well, they look great, anyway !

I like the aspect of the beard of the fourth from left. It gives him a very realistic look. And the general aspect of the fifth one.

Title: Re: Canonball!

Some more WiP shots. And a few notes.

Each pack will have two cannons, one in the limbered position (it will just fit on a 20x40mm base) and another in the firing position. You'll have three wheel options (solid, spoked, reinforced spoked) for the cannon and the carraiges, and six crew. Three of the crew I'll likely reuse in another artillery pack.

On the figure height, I believe Bob overshot the mark. I've asked for another picture but I'm really trying to get him to get them to 10mm at the eye. The boots needs some work as well, and the solid wheel needs to be made round.

Other thoughts?

The cannon look rather modern looking to me. Perhaps a bit of a simpler barrel, less taper, less bands?

The crew in the more recent pictures look very good.

Oh wow!  It's all looking very promising.  Glad that you're offering spare wheels and stuff as I love using those for scenic bits.

Amazingly, I've never found a decent "treasure chest" at 10mm, or storage chest as you have there.  Would love to have some to dot around or have as treasure pile objectives .

I agree with my esteemed colleagues light artillery first , id be interested in 4 packs assuming one gun per pack .
Next unit for me would be flying guys with crossbow . Again limited numbers . Or how about Marauder infantry , but do them more in the style of your existing infantry ?
Characters would be great .

Nearly there. Last change is reducing the size of two of the crewman's boots. Any other thoughts before they're sent to me?

OK, boots all tidied up. I've commissioned a "greater" cannon along with two additional crew for it (loader and aimer). Once that's done they'll both be on their way to me so I can get casting prices before starting the KS.

Really like the models , they are great .

Could i have a choice of not solid wheels on the carriage please as these in my humble opinion look odd , and out of place . I do like spoked wheel for the cannon .

Kind regards

Title: Re: Canonball!

The plan at this point is to include enough wheels of each type so you can put whatever you like on them. We'll have to see how that works out price-wise though.

I'm finalizing the pack contents with my caster. I don't believe I'm going to be able to offer wheel options given their cost. As of right now the cannon unit will contain:

* 6 crew on foot
* 2 cannon (left), 2 carriage, 4 reinforced wheels

And the horse-mobile cannon unit will contain:

* 4 crew on foot, 2 with/on horse
* 2 cannon (top right), 2 carriage, 2 limber, 8 spoked wheels

And now a bonus light cannon unit:
* 6 crew on foot
* 2 cannon (middle right), 2 cannon (bottom right), 2 carriage, 4 reinforced wheels

That work for people? I'm still planning on having stretch goals for the mortar and organ gun, I also might do a Heckblaster.

Seems like a very reasonable offering to me.  Variety and interchangability (if that's a word?!)  I'll be in for some.  A good organ gun option for WMM armies would be nice.

I'm interested in this, but to repeat what I said on Facebook-

Is there a way to combine the various cannon types better? ie. I'd be interested in both galloper guns and some of the regular cannons, but the current options are all varying numbers of one or the other.
Title: Re: Canonball!

There is, just pledge for what you want. Gallopers are 11, rest are 10. You get 5% off for 4 to 7 total units, 10% off for 8 or more. I'll sort it out in the survey.
