It has been a long time since I have played BFG and have a huge number of unassembled and unpainted fleets (Eldar, Space marine, Imperial and Orks). I am finally going to build an Ork fleet for my son to play while I play Imperial. Just wondered where would I be best to start for a 1500 point ork list, with any ships. Any help would be great, like I said it has been years....

I have never played Orks, but i like the ram-ships. I would try to avoid the dependency on command checks if possible - they should have ordnance, but ordnance shouldn't be their main weapon. Try to rely mostly on weapon batteries and ramming.
Edit: Kill Kroozer, Onslaught, Brute, Dethdeala, Hammer, Grunt. These i would use as core, with some of the other optios for variation/experimentation.

On the flip side, Orks can absolutely FLOOD the field with ordnance. Granted, they won't necessarily get to reload so often, but every reload is another valuable launch.
I've found Ork shooting to be totally lackluster, and ordnance and Ld checks to be quite important.

My view could be influenced by the fact that i play mostly corsair eldar. ^^

Like Seahawk says. While a bit daft in concept fielding a lot of Terror Kroozers and torpedo escorts can give Orks even an ac advantage against Tau.
Which happened to me once... but I won due Tau gunnery. har har.

Roks are amazing. You should have at least two in any fleet 1000pts or larger. Brute Ram Ships are fun in concept but opposing players are usually terrified of them and try to destroy them as soon as they are in range. That can be annoying, but can also be a useful distraction so pick your poison. All that being said I wouldn't even consider an Ork fleet complete unless it had a squadron of Ram Ships so there's that lol. Hammer Class Battlekroozers are a must have. The Slamblasta Battleship is the best one. All the escort are worth fielding in a fleet that size - Savages especially. A squadron of four of them can ruin someone's day real fast.
