Title: Painting Dwarves
Post by: industrialtrousers on May 29, 2019, 05:52:57 AM
I have an unpainted Dwarf army but they look tricky to paint so I'm considering moving them on. Are dwarfs much more difficult to paint than anything else?

I've only painted the rangers. I think they'd be the most time intense what with the various leathers and weapins. The warriors look easy in comparison with all that armor and metal.

Cheers Dave. I might try a strip of each and see how I get on when I've got clear of a few current projects.

I'm currently painting a dwarf army and did not found them harder to paint than any other army i have painted so far.

It always depends on the details you want to put in them. The sculptures are rich but all the warmaster range is.

in my experience, the biggest problem is just the fact that they are just as hard as anything else to paint for warmaster but you need to paint at least 6 warrior units.  very monotonous.  not a lot of figs for them to break up the look of them.  The rangers and the thunderers are the hardest to paint, just as dave said, lots of pouches and clothes and other bits on their models.  same with the slayers as the warriors, just a lot of repeat painting.

to break up the infantry strip and too randomize it is to actually cut the strips up and re-align them together randomly.

opposite of their basic 3 infantry units, the cannons and flame cannons and gyro's are very fun to paint as well as their characters (which are needed the least of all warmaster armies)

I agree, do cut the sprues wherever possible for rangers, handgunners but also slayers. It will give you some very nice units, all different.

Having now painted the warriors they were, in fact, NOT easy in comparison. The leather still sucked. Powering through 6 Warriors and 3 Thunderers in 6 weeks definitely burned me out.

A massive effort there fella. Not sure I could maintain the focus but wonderful result.

I sold my dwarves on to a good friend even though I had based and started painting them.  They're from that early high detail release, look about as hard to paint as the Empire.

I am in the middle of painting 2,000 points of Copplestone Dwarves. Nice sculpts. Enough detail but not too much. If they brought out some form of artillery and some scouts, they'd corner the market!
