WM Storm of Chaos Character stats
« on: December 05, 2010, 02:52:37 PM »
Hi, I'm about to run a mini campaign based on the Storm of Chaos fluff and part of that involves having some special characters along. I'm wondering if anyone has had a go at this? The characters who will appear will be:

Archaon (General) cause terror
Kordel Shorgaar (Chaos hero) add 1 to combat resolution as per supporting stands

Grimgore Ironhide (General) - cause terror?
Borgut Facebeater

Ungrim Ironfist, ‘The Slayer King’ (General)

Karl Franz (General)
Valten Inspiring unit joined immune to terror and modifiers for flank/rear charges

I've put in italics some first thoughts. Any suggestions? I guess I'll need to give these points costs too.

There were 2 different versions of Grimgor suggested here - the one of mine and Vincent's one.

My version:
Grimgor Ironhide & Da Immortulz

Unit Name ## Ty St At Ht Ar Cm Cost min/max Special
Grimgor Ironhide 1 Gen 1 +3 - - 8 125 1 *1, 2
Da Immortulz (additional Black Orcs) 1 Inf 3 4 4 5 - 110 1 *2

*1        Grimgor may add +1 to his command value once per battle. You must say that you are using this ability before the roll is made.

*2        The unit of Da Immortulz doesn't count for determining of min/max number of Black Orcs in your army. Grimgor can join and leave Da Immortulz, can't join other units, other characters can't join Da Immortulz. When Grimgor joins Da Immortulz, the unit may not be confused, also Grimgor and the unit may re-roll all missed attack in the first round of any combat.

Vincent's version
Grimgor Iron'hide
Name   Type   Att   Hit   Svg   Cdt   Size   Cost   Min/Max   Special
Grimgor Iron'hide   General   +4   -   -   8   -   130   0-1   *

Specials:

    * Da Black Lord: the army list must contain at least one black orc unit; before the battle designate a black orc unit to become Grimgor personnal guard; when Grimgor joins this unit its save value is 4+
    * Da Big Boss: add 1 to join unit combar result

Regarding Borgut the Facebeater - I think he has to be a common Orc hero with an old Von Carstein ability (same as Grimgor has - the closest analogue of 'Quell animosity' rule we could find in WRM mechanic) - ie 'may add +1 to his command value once per battle. You must say that you are using this ability before the roll is made' for +20 pts.

Those both look good, the Borgut rule is really nicely thought out in relation to the Warhammer rules. Thanks.

Since Karl Franz has a Griffon, he should be flying I guess.
I would propose something like that for him, based on official background:

Karl Franz, General, +3att., CdT 9, Flying, Terror
Emperor or Mankind: can re-roll a failed command roll once in a game and count its CdT as 10 for that re-roll only.

The KF model is sat on a barded warhorse.

I've been mulling over the KF question. Fluff-wise the griffon makes most sense to me but as Stomm points out the SoC character is on a horse and in terms of actually playing Warmaster that might make him a more tempting choice (a general on a monster seems like something of a risk if he's to pay for himself). If he's on a griffon perhaps he might have a rule allowing him to escape death the first time he dies by switching places with another empire character (who would die in his place).
