« on: May 16, 2009, 02:46:31 PM »
I was just getting into playing Warmaster, one of the games i never touched but always was curious. I was searching the SG store for Kislev army which i remember zseeing but it's gone. There are no miniatures, what happened to them? Did The GW cancelled the line or something?

Kislev range is out of sale now (3 years) excepting Steppe Horse Archers that are available in Empire range (UK web-store). You may try to use e-bay or buy a models of other manufacturers - Pendraken or Kallistra.

Old glory also have some figures that could fit,

but the question was interesting. Did Kislev range sales bad? did the mould broke? or has anybody know why GW take the decision of finished the range? (only for curiosity)

The reason stated when they became unavailable was that
only a limited amount of resources were available for storage/production
of Specialist Games, and Kislev was 'put on hold' to make room for the appearance of
the Araby army.

Keep in mind: this was the same time GW went through
their major restructuring of -all- models considered "archive".

It is a safe guess that Kislev was a relatively slow seller,
but I have never seen any sales figures compared to, say;
Vampire Counts, Skaven, or Bretonny (or for that matter: Araby!)

I actually wouldn't mind seeing a comparison of
the various armies relative Popularity backed up with some hard objective data
(eg percentage of all Warmaster Sales/individual army), but:
Not likely!!

There was a rumour at the time that 'discontinued' armies
would cycle back into production over time:
I don't know if that is the case or not at this point.
I have never heard one way or the other that the Kislev Molds are still 'available'...

One last note on the Discontinuation:
I suspect it drove up kislev sales sharply
during the last month of availability..
I know I purchased a sizeable Army I probably wouldn't have otherwise!!

Did GW announce the references that will be discontinued?

I thought kislev range disappeared suddenly. Maybe if I were advice that kislev disapeared I will buy an army too, and I will not wish to happend again with other references.

For example this year the emperor dragon became discontinued.  ??? again i did not buy it.

thanks volstagg for the extended replay

There was an announcement that it would be shelved.
Subsequently kislev prices on eBay have gone through the roof.
The rumour always was that they would temporarily shelve another army to allow for the return of kislev.
I would guess if that ever occured the army in question would be araby.

I think it would be quite unwise for GW to do a rotation of discontinued armies as originally was hinted.
As we see Kislev players that would probably buy GW models now are forced to find other manufacturers for that range (and probably stay with those models). With a rotation even more players would have to go that way.

Thanks for the replies, now i know :/ And I suddenly realized that I just passed an ocasion to get them fairly cheap, not knowing that they are unavaiable and priced as pure gold. As for "stand in " models I found some miniatures in my hobby store but i think they are in 15 mm. scale I'm a not familiar with Warmaster but i think that miniatures were a bit smaller like 10mm or something.

Hmmm, Claus, don't you see it a bit wrong - a totally official army list is published in the same moment (plus or minus few months) when the model range is taken off sale?

Well .... I see it that way...

...an official army and models that did not fulfill expectations in terms of turnover go discontinued. It´s that simple....
We are not forced to use GW models (although they are very nice).

If you really want to play a "Kislev" army .....there are quite a lot of companies selling figurines that could be used for.

Cheers

Ironically, the Kislev bears and warwagon inspired me to finally start WM, but I never actually got around collecting a kislev army (is that ironic? I don't know what that means anymore  :-[ )

I did some online research a couple months ago, and you can find bears at railroad scenery retailers; just google "n-scale bears". It comes down to a matter of $$, because you have to order multilpe packs to get one unit, and you end up with a lot of cubs and otherwise roley-poley looking "cute" bears.
I know there are historical ranges with war wagons, and probably winged lancers as well. The rest of the footsloggers you could use Empire proxies, IMO, as long as you had those signature units.

I think the winged lancers are available from Pendraken as 17th century Polish winged lancers.

Hussite war wagons are less fancy... but serviceable, and there's always the Imperial War Altar chassis + plasticard.

The bears are definitely a problem...
