[BFG] Imperial Navy color test
« on: September 17, 2014, 06:37:23 AM »
I decided to repaint my IN as the color I chose 15 years ago, no longer seems appropriate.  Its not complete (nor very original :) ). I need to: apply a few touch-ups, add the engine thrust, and the prow needs more hi-lighting. I am also thinking about changing the lights/domes to a green or mustard.

If the paint seems thick, this is the second coat. I never strip may models. You think I would, as I repaint more models than I paint!  Here is the test of my new proposed scheme.

And here is the Navy in its current paint scheme...

like the new colour scheme though  ;)

Yup! I agree! Well, purple and gold are the colors of royalty... worn by a king or an emperor... uh... that's all I have.

A friend of mine quite bluntly put it... "That would be real swell for a Slaneshi Fleet!"

Like both! Yes the who grey + red bow thing is done a million times (my own fleet is that too) but it is such a great color combo. My only suggestion would be to blend in a bit more highlights on the leading edge of the armored bow to really catch the eye. For imperial fleets it's all about Prows and Bows for the tabletop impression.

I don't think your paint looks all gunked up. In fact it is rather amazing just how well your new paint covered the old!! Great work!
As we Imperials say, "The Emperor [class battleship] Protects..."

Thanks! Yes, there will be more highlighting on the prow!

A pure 90s paint scheme being turned to something a bit more subdued!

Actually, to that point, I was noodling the prow color in Photoshop last night. I am thinking of not doing a red prow, but instead keeping the yellow from the original...

I think that works. It looks different to the grey + red, and best of all you don't have to re-paint that bit.
