I remember with a smile my first post here. I learn a couple of things
http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=38.0hope it helps you.
Anyway there are 6 pages of rules question that you can read or use the search tool for specific topics.
IMHO the best way of learing is playing little games (we start with armies of 500 points) searching for situations, when you have one or two of this minibattles played without doubts then go for 1000 points battle. Even you could play against yourself and the situations pops up. Then go to the rulebook. If you have doubts then aks around.
Facing the tournament, my advice is that if some rules doubt arise, do not stop the game for too much time or you will ruin the dinamic of the game. Use the following rule:
Throw 1D6:
1-3 player A benefits from the odd situation
4-6 player B benefits from the odd situation
Both players should be agree with this randomize resolution and continue playing. Take some pics of the odd situation and notes. Next morning with a cup of cofee (or tea) go to the rules or post here.
When this happens the learning of the rules is deeper than spending an afternoon studing the rulebook and imaging situation.
My last advise, is to get really clear to the players which version of the ruleset you are using and which houserules do you allow, because there is nothing more annoying than discover in the middle of the game that both players are using slightly different variants, and then "
.... but this rules is that way.. no wait, in bofa rules said..... No wait when I read warmaster ancient.... It is logical that.... I read somewhere in a wargame forum that... but in medieval warmaster it use to be.... my interpretation of parragrpah of the living rules... living what? where I could download them... "
Just an exageration, but not very pleasant situation. What I like to do is take a hard copy of the rules and say: hey we are playing to this (warmaster book, warmaster living rules, warmaster ancients, warmaster medieval, bofa).
Be gentle and fear not, inside and outside the battletable.
little long post, sorry.
