[Warmaster] Paths & ways
« on: June 17, 2014, 03:39:37 AM »
I have rarely seen nice paths or roads for WM, and i have decided to try one. Here is my first way, suitable for any greenland table.

Bases on tissue, foam and magnets for trees. Tissue was a bad idea as i feared. Glue did restrain by drying, and it curved the wall path. I will have to base it with wood, probably.

Beginning of shaping for the banks with Prince August Stone.

Path itself with thiner PA artificial stone.

Graveyard Earth.

Static grass.

Lichen and tree posed.

With peasants walking on.

I like the rounded ends- that'd make it easy to have multiple connecting pieces, creating everything from straight roads to forked roads. Magnetic trees are also great.

Two questions though-
1) why so narrow? Cavalry could march along it well enough, but infantry would have to move sideways? (or maybe that's a good thing, showing the disruption if caught 'on the march'.

2) why have the centre of the road raised and grasses like that? I admit to not having much factual basis for my ideas, but I'd expect that before motor vehicles the wheels of wagons and hooves of horses would work together to leave pretty much the entire road compacted and muddy.

I more or less plan to build crossroads part with curved extremities in the other way. Then, paths will be able to be put at any angle. This is still to be done.

1) because it's said on rules that roads only have an effect on infantry walking sideways. After few hesitation i decided to go on this way. The other reason is that paths would have been veeeery large otherwise. Far too much in my opinion to look nicely.

2) I thought about that and decided chariots could have altered paths like cars... I must admit i'm unsure. I did not wanted to grass all the way, nor wanted it to be completly muddy. I wanted small grass turfs. So i put them like that. But i admitt it's discutable. I may change for other ones. I probably will. And if needed, i can upgrade this one with grass without any problem.

Thanks, those questions make the whole thing advance in my head.
