Drive back
« on: February 01, 2015, 04:11:29 PM »
You think you know almost everything Warmaster might throw at you and then there is another new thing!

In this instance a brigade of three units was hit by an Orc spell Gotcha! 30cm range, it hits all 3 units in the brigade.
After rolling to hit and saving we rolled for drive back and as luck would have it the nearer the unit was to the shaman the further it was driven back.

First question, the wizard is in direction blue arrow and is the only shooting unit.
Whilst the rules state driven back there is no implied direction, are we correct to think the unit goes back towards its own rear as per left image or moves directly away from the direction of the shooting unit?

Second question as the front [buff] unit has to move 10 cm, we assumed the whole brigade would move 10 cm. Should we move them in some other formation or way?

We couldn't decided in which order it was best to move the units, however.

Final Question, Although Orange might move first we must assume orange has to make way for green's drive back, and then again for green when it is driven back by buff.
So how many rolls for confusion?

Orange moves
Green moves and forces Orange to move
Green and Orange both roll for confusion
Buff moves and forces green to move as well as orange
Buff rolls for confusion and Green and orange roll again.

Thanks.

Away from the nearest shooting unit !!!   MIND YOU that unit does not need HITS on the target, but just be the nearest

Hard to tell without exact distance of driveback, however in general

You should be handling this on a "per unit" base. Which allows you more options, in this case it is probably the Orange you want to move first. There is no risk of confusing anyone so do that.
Now move Green, assuming it will force orange the distance need to move for orange actually might allow it to move sideways, allowing green to slide by...... roll for Orange being confused, and for Green confusing.
Now go to Buff, as the direction for all units is the same it would bump Green, but again, Green "MIGHT" move off to the side, rather then being pushed back, on account of shortest distance. Buff should normally not influnce Orange, but if Orange is behind Green then Roll for Orange giving way, Green pushing AND Green giving way and Buff pushing

LOTS, but remember that making way is not perse in the same direction...!

Sorry should have said the numbers 10, 5 and 3 were the distance as per picture.

1) the latter, directly away drom the closest unit the shot at it.

2 & 3) order is up to you, you would have to make way at least once each if the back units moved to the side. If you wanted to stay in the same formation it would be 1 2 and 1 though (see making way under confusion)

Lex covers it well.

Drive-back is done unit by unit, and done in an order chosen by the models' controlling player.
Choosing to drive orange back first is a good idea, though you to risk the chance that the drive back will confuse it. IIRC once confused it's unable to yield to the drive-back of other units, and the entire brigade would become confused as a result (in this scenario, at least).
In other words, although it can be tempting to roll all 3 drive-backs at once, I recommend against it, as prior knowledge of which units will be confused can affect how you deal with them.
