Ben's Dumb WM Question Thread
« on: June 22, 2016, 07:16:21 PM »
Hey all!

I have not had many chances to play Warmaster for a bit.  I am awful with rules normally, and when I don't play something frequently my tenuous grasp becomes ever more frail on a ruleset.

So, my idea is to make this thread, and update my original post with answers if I can get a succinct enough one to rephrase / copy-paste.

Apologies if these have been asked before, especially by me.  I will at some point do a thread with pictures to demonstrate problems I have with combat etc.

1) When a Chariot / Monster charges - they get +1 on top of their +1 charge bonus.  So, for example, Chaos Chariots go from 3 Attacks to 5.  Does this bonus continue into the next rounds of combat, or does it only count on the first, to represent the "shock and awe" of the attack?

2) When, during combat, a unit is pushed into impassable terrain or an enemy unit, is the whole unit destroyed or only the individual stands that touch the obstacle?

3) Do you roll for priority at the beginning of every turn, not just the start of the game?

Thank you all, I will doubtless be asking more, especially after the game(s) I am likely to have tonight/tomorrow.

Hi Ben, first of all my wishes to have a great game.

1) Bonus of charge (normal, monster or chariot) only count in the first round, when the charge happens.
In the next rounds, the victory side has +1, and another +1 per 3cm that enemy retreats. Retreaters do not have bonuses at all. Next round are not a charges they are a sustain struggle of the forces, a mass of soldiers pushing and stabbing in a loose way.

2) Only the stands that can not finish the movement are destroyed. You can imagine the stands of the defeat side retreating X cm while the winning side are pushing. The defeat side MUST retreat those cm, if they can't they are hunting down by the winning side.
A rule not written is that event occur to stands not whole unit. In example movement is stand by stand, bonus is per stand, profile is per stand, etc... So the architecture of WM is made stand by stand. The unit is only three stands that should end the movement in contact.

3) There are not priority in WM. Only in the begining of the game and in some scenarios the priority side is even prefixed. Usually the first side to play the command phase is the assumed to be the Atacker, and the other is called the Defender. The phases are alternated, if you change that rolling for priority at the begining of every turn you will unbalance the game.
