Chaos Box Set contents?

Just picked up two chaos box sets on ebay real cheap.

What exactly did I just buy? 

For a goblin army I already have 2 orges and planning on 4 trolls; from the BoFA box set I have pently of wolves for hounds...  Imagine just need a dragon, and some wizards now...

Contents- two heros on horses (one with sword, one with a horn); one hero on foot, one with a banner.
2x marauders
2x chaos warriors
1x chaos knights
1x hounds

With the two extra blisters I have of chaos warriors, two units of orges, the extra dragon I have lying around and the piles of wolves from BOFA; I am good to go.

Think I will be adding dragon orges and harpies and maybe one more unit of chaos knights.

I would not recommend dragon ogres as they are much too expensive pointwise in my experience.
Maybe Harpies? Some more marauders? Or chariots (would be my first choice)?

Everything Spiritus has said is true.
But as I have argued in the past dragon ogres are a very useful addition fo rthe following reasons:

• You can always pick them up cheap off of ebay
• When they hit, they hit hard
• They can be used as a distraction for your opponent, they may use al their efforts to get rid of that uber hard unit wandering around (presuade them that this is the case;)
• I just love the models

All that said they are very expensive for the equivalent attacks and I have had them sit all game doing nothing whilst the rest of my army rampages around the board.

As for more maruaders, depends on how you play, if you prefer a more horde like army then this is the way to go, if you want a small but very hard force then knights and warriors with some terror causers is the way to go.
The problem with the small hammer is it can sometimes be very brittle

I think that that's the elephant in the room. You can field a unit of dragon ogres ($15 retail) rather than 4 units of marauders ($60 retail) or 8 units of chaos hounds ($120 retail)-- and they paint up and are out on the tabletop faster too. The dragon ogres are cheap on ebay, look wonderful and do have some use in an army. For a new player looking to have a ton of fun, that's a winning combination, especially while you're building up your army. In a non-tournament game, they're a great addition.

From a fluff standpoint, generals usually don't get to pick their armies-- they usually have a mission to accomplish and rally together whatever forces they have available. The luxury of deciding what you can afford to leave at home is only available if you have overwhelming force. Or a transportation bottleneck, but that's another story.

The objective with this army is to have an opposition force availible.

I'm growing my warmaster group by raising kids... 

I currently have Dwarf, empire, high elf armies; goblins are being slowly painted up (4 units of gobbos, 4 wargs done; 4 more gobbos and 4 wolf riders + characters on the painting table; 4 trolls and 4 half orcs on the to be ordered list); and the above chaos forces.

For my purposes, rounding out what I picked up cheap with chaos knights and dragon orges is good enough. The paint time to point value ratio on chaos knights and dragon orges is excellent.

Goblins are litterly a waste of time to paint.   But with the hobbit coming out in the next year or two, I want to get two boxes done.

I'd love to hear how a chaos warrior army fares. I've tended to go relatively Marauder heavy (6 unpainted units) to keep the BP up. The good point about your army is that it should be easy enough to command with 3 characters, the last game I played saw me struggle to keep things moving because I had far more brigades than characters (I took the 3 you've got here).

I tend to have half my units designated as "shock" made up of Chaos Warriors, Trolls and Chaos Knights and Chariots. They get stuck in.
The other half of my unit are made up of weaker units who are only really there to guard flanks and rears of the shock troops.

Basic tactic engage with the shock in the knowledge that your opponent has to kill all of it before you reach your break point.
Hang back and threaten/lurk with the softer units unless a golden opportunity for an easy kill comes up.

I play a lot of Chaos (nearly 5K painted up) and find that this tactic is a good one. If you engage with everything I find that your opponent will just try to avoid your shock and break you by killing all your marauders, hounds etc.
