I would hate to see none pro-painted
« on: February 27, 2011, 11:18:52 AM »
Just seen these on eBay.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150569451436&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:1123#ht_828wt_934

Oh how I laughed.
Now I am no expert but these are far from pro-painted :)

I don't know, I have seen an awful lot worse. Obviously I've seen a lot better as well, lots and lots better.

The trouble with the 'Pro Painted' label is that it can cover pretty much anything. Bare basecoats with or without a 'dip' can be pro-painted for example, it all comes down to the fact that the more that you pay, the better the quality of painting at least ought to be anyway...

Dave, I sell my stuff, for a very handsome sum.
My customers are more than happy to pay what I charge, but even then I don't class them as pro-painted.  :o :o :o

Just makes me laugh when people put it on eBay and the models are wargaming standard at best :)

I always ask who "pro-painted" the item and if they have a link to their site - that information seems to be left out on a lot of these auctions.

Well they are nicely painted, "pro painted" miniatures on ebay usually look way worse.

I would give them a 6 out of 10, respectable score.

I agree that "pro painted" is a completely subjective, relativist and therefore pretty meaningless term.

I thought they looked ok. If there was an entire army in that lot as the title suggests I'd have been tempted...

I'd only have been tempted if the rest of the army were in there (I like the fact that someone has asked where the knights are)! But quality-wise I thought (think) they're quite nice. I can't say that I disagree with you on the rather optimistic use of 'pro painted' and the description of it as an army is even further off base but I suppose it'll get people looking. As for the price, it's more than I'd pay but if I think about the £ per hour it'd take me to paint those units it'd be a bargain!

I don't know... they look pretty good to me, mainly because I painted my figs before I discovered washes...
The caveat being that I hope they were painted in bulk, rather than a one-off project. If it's the latter, than a lot more time could've been spent on them to earn the "pro-painted" label.

But I completely agree azrael that 1) I wouldn't attach the 'pro' label to them, and 2) "pro-painted" is an oft-used and abused selling point on ebay.
