Hired Swords: Who can Use 'em?
« on: May 25, 2009, 09:06:04 PM »
I was looking at the hired swords today and I noticed something a bit odd. Several of the hired swords are listed as available only to certain warbands. That't not odd you say. What's odd? What's odd is that some hired swords cannot be hired by warbands that would logically be able to hire them.

Example: Dwarf Trollslayer: Mercenaries and Witch Hunters only.

You might say that the trollslayer rules were written before the dwarfs and the dwarfs should be able to use them, but an annual and a rules review never addressed that particular issue. It's not even vague like "good warbands" or non-evil or all except X, Y and Z.

So what do you all think? I 'm asking not just because I play dwarves but because I am working on updating the Army Builder 3 files for Mordheim. I've made the acquaintence of aguy who has a more developed set of files than you generally find out there. The files do have a few problems and so I'm helping out. One of the problems is the warbands don't have all the appropriate hired swords available. So I want to make sure I get this correct.  Is there some place that I have missed that the original hired swords commented upon?

There are others that I may throw up here for discussion.

Thanks all.

There is no official cross reference guide available.

Yes, Troll Slayer HS came out before the Dwarf Warband came out.

I don't think each race needs it's own Hired Sword.

Strike to Stun has a nice cross reference Hired Sword guide.

Yeah this updating has been omitted from the rules, later warbands have rules that define which hired swords they may hire, but the warbands made just after the rulebook doesn't.

Thus most hired swords should be considered with common sense in mind, dwarves may hire a troll slayer but not an elf ranger, even though they are both available to the same warbands in the core rulebook.

Strike to stun did make a list of this, although I can't find it.
