When the SG forums shut down we were given the option to re-register via email IIRC and a linka nd stuff popped up and we were told that we would be notified by email when the new forums were up. I know of at least 2 other people I've just posted this link to that were completely surprised by the fact that the SG Forums are up, whether officially released or not, and having had no notification whatsoever.

Is it possible for email notifications to be sent out to all ex-members to link them back here?

Ram, ^^ that was the intention, however, diverging formats have not allowed us to move the way we would have wanted, and a couple of weeks ago we decided to go ahead and bring these up anyway. There is a question outstanding at the GW-web/tech guys to hand the opt-in/opt-out adress set for the purpose you mentioned, but we have not heard from them yet.

And we did not do full PR yet, because we were still (so to speak) decorating this news house.......

Hey Lex,

Okay that sounds reasonable. My suggestion to help expand on this PR is to get Jervis Johnson to do a ramble on in Standard Bearer in the White Dwarf about what has happened et al and explain about the forums, maybe answer some of the questions that are being asked like with all the stuff that was posted being now lost to the depths of time (fortunately we had the Snotling warband and my Race thread which whilst not updated for a year or two was found in my room when I cleane dit up heh, saved as back ups). If the GW web/tech guys don't hand over the details for everyone who registered to be notified of the new forums then this is one way that will get the word out as alot of us don't use teh GW website anymore as many of the links are redundant taking you to the opening screen asking what country/language you would like to view the site from...

Anyways, the forum looks nice and has some good features so well done on getting it put back together.

Ram.

You know Standard Bearer is written somewhere between 3 to 6 months before it's published?

So? My point is still valid. I don't even bother with the GW website anymore as any old links link to the overview page and once in don't redirect you. Finding your way around to many people is icky at best so getting redirects off of say the GW Webpage isn't going to necessarily happen. Chuck up a paragrapgh in a White Dwarf or get Jervis to ramble on about stuff. Easy.

What is the purpose of this forum?

No link on the SG section in the GW website makes it no more accessible to new players than any other forum.

As far as I can see only Mordheim+warmaster communities have really returned to the forum - other games have left for their own forums (taccoms etc.) and not returned as there is no real point to it without the old posts or links from GW.

At the moment all it does is makes the games look dead as nobody is posting - whereas in fact they are just posting elsewhere

Hooray, it is good to be back, I used to be a part of the Necromunda Rules Commitee, many moons ago and am eager to lend my knowledge and expertise once again.

That seems to be a good idea. I wonder if Mods could ask about this from Andy / Jervis / others ex SG persons?
