[BFG] WIP My ships thus far
« on: February 26, 2013, 03:14:38 AM »
Hey guys,
I’ve been a long time browser and decided I should show what I have thus far - I've been gathering ships from IN, SM and Eldar for the last 2 years but I've never had the time to put them together or play BFG. About two weeks ago I thought It was high time to play and dived into a game with a friend with just 1 cruiser each. We got a lot of rules mixed up and my SM S Cruiser fled the field from his IN Lunar. For the second game I got my Strike cruisers built and had my friend bring over the IN ships I bought him- He got first blood but I nailed 2 of the 3 Cruisers he had.

It’s also worth noting that I glued a rogue trader's prow on upside down...which meant the magnets were also facing the wrong way : /  That took some time to fix BUT - I figured out that the best way to get the magnets out again was to drill next to them and then use a paper clip to leverage the magnets back out.

Right now I’m working on the " Nicor" Grand cruiser from IA10 - I’ve placed the hangers on the underside of the hull and tilted forwards ( to represent prow facing launch bays) . I was also thinking of putting the front of the Forge world strike cruiser on the underside  - I will sink it further into the hull so it’s not so bulky but I’m still undecided –  I also need to decide on the location of the ships 'plasma destructor' – either underslung or on the top/ front of the ship. I'm really looking forward to surprising my friend with this ship and hearing him rage :D

I’m also working on an Ad mech cruiser - I have magnetized the gun ports on the side and plan on making some storage containers to convert it into a factory ship for my rogue trader fleet :) I got the Idea from the “Rogue trader: Koronus expanses” book which is worth its weight in gold. I really recommend it to BFG players for kool rules, facts, ship types and artwork.

Wow, I recognize that custom ADmech prow on the trader: two were just on eBay and sold for an outrageous price. I didn't bid myself, but I regret it now. It'll look stunning.  8)

And the Zeus prows also look cozy. Good choices for your rogue fleet. Will you be modeling Xenos escorts?

Hey Duke,

I’ve got the GW escorts atm and I also own a lot of cobras/variants - I also got a few plastic minis from another model range that are the right size but I’m undecided as yet. In true Rogue trader style I'd like to get 6 escort carriers a few Q-ships / transports and perhaps a pack of swords for some flexibility. I might whip up 'The night hag' from IA10 for another nicely themed cruiser. I haven’t really thought about what point limit this fleet will get too. I know that I don’t want any battleships in the Rogue trader fleet. My space marine fleet will definitely have two barges though =P

IA10 Night Hag - The macro cannonade isn't underslung but I felt this would look the best. The under side hanger is the front of a forgeworld SM S Cruiser. On its sides are the wings of cassiuses crozius and the front eagle off of two IN ship prows. Its about 90% complete...I would like to add a little more detail and some vox masts.

Thoughts?

Kooky Ideas...... The GC looks better with a mid fin on the underside but Im not sold on the plasma destructors location given I still have to fix the 3 turrets on top.

Secondly I was inspired by a pic on warseer and came up with a similar ship - using a SM SC prow to replace the under half of an IN cruisers prow. (looks odd as its just blue tack'd onto its front to get the idea across)-

Thoughts on the two ships- improvements?

Pretty cool, I like the mix and match.
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

Thanks man- That's exactly what I was going for - Although I dont think the fleet will look good if I start adding stock ships to it.... The scale of the prows just doesnt seem to match nicely. Almost finished the RT / SM fleets - Thinking of kool ships I can convert up :D Galaxy class Mass conveyors or a star galleon? 8)

Hey, could you take a picture of that SM prow attachment from a forward angle? I'd like to see how that prow looks in the middle.

Cheers,
Duke

Looking good, really interesting conversions. Not so sure about that plasma cannon on the bottom of that one ship though. Not so much the position, but the bit itself. Thing is that it's too clearly a 40k sized thing. Whilst that might work in Epic scale models from time to time, here it simply looks a bit out of scale. So either try to add more details to that gun, or use another bit. For some reason I can't help but think that the Plasma Pistol from the Khorne Berzerkers would work a lot better here due to its detailing.
