Regular or Irregular formation?
« on: March 24, 2015, 01:17:04 PM »
Dear Warmaster community,

My regular opponent and I often form brigades with some infantry units in an "L" formation, where two stands are side by side touching on the short edge, and a third stand is touching on the long edge of another stand.

Like this;

AAABBB
CCC

or this

AAA
BBBCCC

We have always considered this to be a regular formation, as the stands are flush with each other, but upon reading the rules in detail I am wondering if we have got this wrong.

This formation does not appear in any of the examples given in the rulebook (Warmaster or Warmaster ancients) for a regular formation.
So does this therefore mean that this is an irregular formation, reducing the unit to half pace?

Thoughts and comments welcome.

It's irregular. You'd be limited to half-pace moves (note that you can still charge your full-pace though).

Sure Dave is right,

but ...what I understood units are regular or irregular. Brigades only say the units need to end conected.

If

AAABBB
CCC

A is in regular formation, B is in regular formation and C too, why do you consider A, B or C are in irregular formation?

Brigades like that are no problem, but he's asking about units.

The three letters represent one stand, not three stands (ie AAA is a single stand, not three in line). That confused me too for a second.
