how to make a balanced battlefield?

How do you assemble your battlefield? how many scenic did you use? what kind and in which number? how far did deploy from the table edge and from each other?
For my first game i used 2 hills , 4 wood  and one  pallisade/camp (treated as impassable) , and i placed them in a equlibrated way (1 hill and 2 wood for side , the camp in center ) i placed them outside the deploy zone , the woods just outside of the deploy ; is better to place them a little too deep? i used too much wood?

ok i 've readed the link. But from your experience did you think there are some tips when making a battlefield? too much wood is too powerfull for inf shoting-based army ?(dwarf maybe  empire) , center table too much open can advantage bretonnia?

When asked about setting tables I always think of it like this:

- divide the table in say, 9 areas.
- create a scenery plan for each of those 9 areas, as if you where setting up for a game of Warhammer or 40K.
- shuffle those "cards", and randomly distribute them onto the 9 areas, then set scenery correspondingly.

You will find yourself with some interesting configurations, with plenty of open areas to manouvre in, and some key cover around the centre of the table. A good game of Warmaster should allow you to go for a denied flank, or to actualy move and anchor flanks on terrain for a fight in mid-table. Dancing around is part of the game (and one of the reasons I hate playing with a turn-limit on events. With Bretonians I have found it not unusual to "prance around" for 3 to 4 turns before actualy engaging.

ok maybe next time i try 1 more hill and one less wood , maybe is more balanced

you also want a decent length of linear obstacles ....  both the once that can be seen over (low hedges and fences etc) and the higher growths like the Bocage (check WWII - Normandy fighting for reference)

Hedges - get some green pan scourger (is like "sheets" of green stuff you use to scrub pans etc). Create suitable length and heigth. Stick to cardboard or thin wood bottom ....
