Hi All, a quick rules question that came up last night. When a unit wins a combat in the first round and advances into fresh enemy how do the carried over hits work. An example should make my question clearer:
A unit of Knights takes four hits in its first combat. One base dies, one has a hit recorded on it. The Dwarf enemy lose the combat and retreat into another dwarf unit who refuse to make way. The retreating dwarf unit is destroyed.
The knights then advance into the second unit. There seem to be two options as to what to do with the hits they've already taken (obviously one of these is incorrect):
1) They fight the combat as normal but have a wound already so it will only take two hits to kill the first stand that dies. When working out the combat result the Knights begin with four hits against them before any dice are rolled by the new dwarf combatants. (This option is the one we played, obviously it makes advancing into new enemy pretty risky).
2) They fight the combat as normal but have a wound already so it will only take two hits to kill the first stand that dies. Hits scored in the previous combat don't count towards the combat result.
The ambiguity stems from the rules stating that hits are carried over into the next round. I'm unsure if this means as wounds or as 'combat resolution', or both.
Anyone got the answer (of course you have!)?
