[AL] Kislev War Wagon
« on: December 19, 2016, 11:52:52 AM »
Issue: Not really an issue but why not to discuss it. The most effective way of move a war wagon in column is to move it backwards. There's no real issue other than it just looks silly. Should this be taken into account somehow? There are no other units restricted in the way they move, so that would have to be an extra rule. Any ideas?

Why is that the most effective way ??

The Warwagon is essentially a static defense. Moce it in position and fortify.

Sure, but I mean when you move it in column, before you laager it.  The most safe way is to have the wagon stand in the front so you prevent it being charged into the horse stand (with no attacks ), in case you fail an order to laager it. I'll edit the original post to make it clear.

Quite simple solution comes to mind. Just to let both stands act as single stand when it comes to attacking enemies. Right now I can't realize any situation where this might cause a problem.

Brilliant suggestion.... makes things much easier. One big problem would be with the wagon section not shooting at chargers trying to murder the horses though?

The rules for War Wagon say that you can shoot over the team stand.

Yes but if the rules change to make the horses and the wagon count as 2 seperate units then the wagon won' t be able to shoot at the unit charging its horses unles it will also be contacted.

Hmm, I wouldn't touch things which are not spoilt. You can always imagine that when it moves horses are in the front. When the order of movement is fulfilled then horses are hidden behind the wagon waiting for further orders. To laager or to move further. Kind of rest though. If the next order fails to reach wagon then horses remind hidden behind the wagon in semi-defneded position, but without actual laagering.

I only played the war wagon once - at my first WM game ever, so I don't know if there is a real need for it to be amended.

If so, then I like Aldhick's proposal of the two stands acting as one (meaning if the horse stand comes into contact with enemy, it counts the same as if it were the wagon stand.)

The other way (of moving the unit backwards) definitely would look silly. And it would mean you get -1 attack for having an enemy on your rear. (If I did not miss anything - I'm not looking at the wagon rules at the moment.)
