[EA] Death Guard Army for FSA
« on: March 11, 2010, 01:04:52 AM »
I'll be taking a Nurgle themed Black Legion army to Full Scale Assault at the end of March. Unluckily for me, I don't have one yet. so I have been working on it.. this is going to be a blog of how it's coming along (continued from the one on Tac Com)

This week so far has been productive. Have got my Plague Bearers and Folorn Hope finished.. Got some more counters done (broken formation ones. I had the Blast markers done for my Epic GT army from a couple of years back).. And now I'm over halfway through the Terminators.

Managed to finish the Terminators.. YAY... though they were much harder than I thought they would be.

Next should really be the Havocs

but I think I need a break from infantry so very well might get one of my Death wheels done.

Yay finished a Death Wheel.. Love these things... They remind me of some of the wierd machines the Germans's were planning during the Great War.

Would be cool to make one for 40k... As long as it worked ...

I'm starting to worry about getting it all done to this standard in time... but if I fail.. I take my Nurgle Guard instead.. I would rather get the army all done to this level than rush them for the Tournament.

You, sir, are demented.

Well done. :)

Edit: have to say a bit more.  I love the the mini-semi-diorama look, especially the termis and havocs. (And brilliantly painted too)  Makes me want to hack up and rebase some of my SMs, but I dunno if I'd have the patience.
That slime's impressive and nauseating in equal amounts too, especially on the deathwheel.  What'd you use for it?

I didn't realise that you could use round bases for EA, I think it works really well and allows a much more natural looking unit formation. Other than that, very nice indeed, this sort of thing makes it really hard for me to resist popping some of the Epic stuff I've had in blisters for ages and slapping some paint on them. I've sort of promised myself that I'd get my WM, WMA, WH and 40K armies sorted out first....

Cling Film, cut into really thin slices and covered in water effect.. a real pain to do, I almost gave up twice.

Managed to get the base white and brass on the first 8 stands of CSMs and the Havocs.. Almost finished converting up the last 8 stands of CSMs, and spent a nice evening getting the Rhinos converted

I love working on Base tanks and adding lots of Nurgle bitz.

Now I'm staring at lots of models which I've got to get painted before the end of the week. It's a bit daunting.

Been working hard to get things completed. Finished converting and basing the 2nd CSM Formation to go with the Rhinos.
Spent quite a bit of time converting the Aspiring Champions, lots of whittling down plasticard into horns and spikes, head swapping out the heads of Khorne Berserker and replacing arms with claws off Daemonettes.

The second formation of CSMs, has been undercoated with black spray, then the marines undercoated with Vallejo 70998 Bronze, I'm starting to really love Vallejo paints, never used them until I stopped working for GW, but the Bronze is really nice to work with. After the Bronze, they have a coat of the Classic GW Brown Ink mixed with some 'ardcoat and water. The white plates were then picked out with Vallejo 70971 Green Grey, a colour that was just designed for painting Heresy Death Guard armour. Finally they have had another coat of the Ink-Ardcoat wash. The coat of Green Grey is actually one of the most time consuming parts of the scheme as you have to be really careful to get it put on really cleanly.

After this stage I move on to the Trim and the cleaning up the plates. First I painted the Trim with Orkhide Shade to give me a base to work off. I then painted the plates again with the Green-Grey, this time I'm not trying to paint the entire plate, I want to leave part of the washed area around the edges so it's much faster than the original coat. The 2 stands at the back are up to this stage.

I then paint the edges of the shoulders with Camo Green and the highlight with a Camo Green / Green-grey mix. After this I get pure Skull white and highlight the plates which brings us up to the stage the front 2 are up too.

With the Havocs I've based them with 4 heavy weapons to a stand, I know they only get 2 shots, but it makes them much easier to pick out, I've also added mussel flashes for this reason. The heavy weapons are made from a mix of the Heavy Bolters and Converted Noise Marines from the new Chaos Sprue.

It's all moving along nicely. and I'm feeling more confident in getting it all done in time. I've set myself the goal of getting all the infantry done by the end of the week.

Which means all I have to do in the last week is one more Deathwheel, 4 Gunbeasts (to represent Oblits for the moment, they will later go into the LATD army I'm working on next) and a 3rd HellBlade to go with these 2
