I know that the Cavalary variant is the more effective and easier to play one but isn´t this a poor sign that you only can play this army when fielding enough Cavalry as you don´t have sufficient commanders to go for an Mass Infantery attempt ?

Given the list you chose for 2k, the question arises: why not play Vampire counts? -- if you want a 'shooty' TK army, then buy chukkas and even bone throwers as well as archers.  If you want cavalry, buy cavalry to go along with your chariots.  If you want a good strong infantry army... VC.

I don't know... it seems you're max-minning the list by neglecting to buy cavalry... then complaining that the list is weak or under-led. In the end, of course, it's a legitimate disagreement over what the list should look like -- and what the range of balance within the list should be.  But I tend to advocate conservatism about changing lists willy-nilly, in great part because concerns about inter-list 'balance' often tend to push lists toward a fairly boring symmetry.

No question, TK are challenging to play because of their -- fairly -- weak leadership, especially because their chariots and carrion tend to pull their leaders out of range of supporting infantry.  But I tend to think this is "working as intended."

@Carrington

You got me wrong....

I never mentioned that Tomb Kings are underpowered.

Tomb Kings were my very first Warmaster army and it took me some time to understand how to play them. That´s were I ended up with the 1 General, 4 Liech Priest, 6 Chariots, 2 Carrions + maybe adding a Dragon.....army set up.

This is the most effective one. No discussion about that point.
If we are only talking about efectiveness then you can skip the skull chukka, bone thrower, Bone Giant and Sphinx Unit for this Army. Compared to their ability in combat and the points you have to spend for them they are not worth being taken. (Skeletton Cavalry can be used more or less)

It´s not a crying for power up....it´s a crying for getting an additional hero to be taken in addition to the liech priest. To restrict also the command range of the "Mummie" to 20cm could be a good attempt.

I don´t like the recommended approach of taking maxed out hard hitting cavalry.....it´s much to often seen nowadays. Shure no discussion about effectiveness....there you can´t beat cavalry and Flyers....but this slowly imbalances the system in a direction I don´t like.

I have quite a lot of different Armies (Chaos, Daemon, O&G, Empire, Lizzardmen, Tomb Kings, Araby, High Elf) that I play regularily. Each of them you can play in different ways but for all of them you got sufficient commanders in the army choice....actually more then you need with exception to the Tomb Kings.)

That´s my point ....and you probably will not be able to convince me about the contrary.

Cheers
Claus

P.S.:
Let´s the discussion continue.

Hi, this conversation is too experience for me, so take my words with the proper care. I do not play enough, and also do not paly enough with tomb kings.

My point is focus in the background and how I understand the building of the list. The undeads have 20cm because they are death reanimated. The excepcion is the Tomb king. So slip in the list a hero with a command over 20cm fells like the background/coherence is failling. But I do not know if it is needed for a good-fair play.

just my two cents
