Well the reason for using satanism is that there has been both historic and fictuos claims of devil worship.
Like the knights templar, what if they actually were devilworshipers and could summon the forces of hell to defend against the attempt to topple them?
Besides who else but Christian societies would have satanic cults?
Isnt Satan/ the devil/ lucifer a christian mythological being?
Its not very likely youd find satanic cults among people busy asking favours from oden or anubis...
