CLOSING DOWN THE BOARDS AND SITE
« on: February 09, 2026, 04:10:04 AM »
It is with considerable sadness that I have to announce that I will be closing down these forums, and following that, shutting down the website. These boards will be turned off on 28th Feb 2026.

With the rise of Facebook groups, various Discord servers, and each of the games having their own websites and communities, this hub has seen its traffic and purpose reduced considerably over the last year or so. It is now at the point where there is a single thread here keeping it active, and beyond that the previous last post was over a month ago.

This site was always about keeping the games alive through providing the player communities with a space to meet and discuss and share their excitement for the games. As such, it is clear that for whatever underlying reason, that is no longer happening here.

Beyond that, the website itself will also need to close, as without these forums, there is not a lot of content or reason for the site to exist.

In the short term.....

- Discussion will continue for Epic/Legions Imperialis and all editions over on the Discord, and other SG chat is always welcomed there too: https://discord.gg/zhgBgVM

- The key content sections of this site will be moved over to the Tactical Wargames website eventually to keep them available for reference initially: https://www.tacticalwargames.net/taccmd/

For the long term, I am unsure at this time. To be honest, I have lost a lot of the appetite for website hosting - its a mostly thankless task, involving a lot of work, and its extremely fragile and vulnerable to both technical issues and changing trends in social media. On top of that, while Epic and Legions remain and will always be some of my favourite games, I am diversifying my interests and life is forcing me to slow my pace. But perhaps treating these as hobbies and fun without feeling an obligation will also be a good change.

I do want to extend sincere and immeasurable thanks to (1) the staff of GW and the old Specialist Games and Fanatic divisions for what they created, in particular Jervis and Andy Hall, (2) the various members of the game rules committees who put a lot of time into these fun little diversions (3) the entire mod team here who have worked a lot to keep things moving and fight against a rising tide of spam and troublesome users occasionally, and last but certainly not least to every member here who has stuck with this, played the games, enjoyed their time and participated in the fun and distraction from a difficult world, and contributed to the growth and mature nature of the experience here. This community and these forums have been a part of my life for many, many years, and many changes. Its an experience that I will never forget.

Thank you.

@Cybershadow
Thanks for creating this place in the first place. :)

But times indeed changed and discord is also for Battlefleet Gothic the place to be these days:

Thank you. And I strongly suggest and hope that people will continue to support their favourite game communities at the various Discord and Facebook Groups. I am sure that I will see some of you there.

Thank you from me for maintaining this site, and another thank you to those who contributed to it and created it. BFG is one of my favourite games, and seeing all the creativity on this site and the written contributions to the rules has been great for me.

Wishing the team here and the hobbyists in general happy times in the future!

It’s a sad day that sees the Specialist Games/Arms forums close! I’m not sure anything else quite does what forums do, but I think we’ve all known these forums have been in their twilight for several years now. And while this link in the chain from the Old Days may be retiring, the chain is definitely not broken—in fact, it seems like the communities are stronger and more diverse than ever before, and that’s pretty cool!

Thanks CyberShadow and everyone behind the scenes of the site (e.g. horizon)! A lot of people have poured a lot of love for their hobby and communities into here, and your hard work has made possible for many years.

I think the biggest loss for me will be the history of the games’ evolution over this period (BFG in particular, at least as my biggest interest!). Will all the discussion threads be lost? And would (e.g.) Wayback Machine be able to archive them?

Thank you both.

While I can understand a desire to see the forums preserved for posterity, its not always possible. Keeping forums accessible means an active database, web space, and a (rented) IP address, at the very least. And that's not including keeping any software and systems updated and protected for security reasons.
