@ Jurisch:
I hope you can see them on the battlefield soon.
@ pw:
Thank you! Good idea about picking up the brush again. I'd like to see more of your great Talabheimers and new banners for inspiration are highly appreciated. The banner competition is on! Just kidding. Afterwards I think it's crazy to spend so much time just for a "stupid" banner. But it's also crazy to play with small soldiers. Hehe.
As requested here's small step by step of my crossbowmen:
I use a mix of GW Citadel and Vallejo paints. They are exchangeable and there are several comparison charts around on the net.
First of all I glued the strips on wooden spatulas used to examine the throat. Before undercoating everything with black Citadel Spray I added some sand to the minis.
Next I painted the basic colours in the following order:
- first faces and hands with Vallejo Heavy Skintone to make to minis come alive
- metal parts bolt gun metal (drybrush on the chainmail, or you can fully paint it and use black ink)
- wood and leather scorched and bestial brown
- clothes in a quartered pattern iyanden darksun
- badges shining gold
- feather liche purple
- green band vallejo hvy green
I always leave a little bit of black between two adjacent colours so there is a better visual seperation for the eyes. Hopefully that's understandable.

Then there comes a strong wash with devlan mud which already gives the mini a good tabletop standard

When everything's dry it's time for the highlights:
- for the skin I used a mix of bleached bone and hvy skintone (it got a little bit too bright)
- metal parts mithril silver
- leather parts snake bite leather
- yellow robes mix of iyanden darksun bleached bone
- black clothes and hair and beards codex grey
- gold badges mix of shining gold and mithril silver
- for the feathers and the green band I mixed the basic colours with bleached bone aswell

The base was painted scorched brown, with highlights of bestial brown then graveyard earth and finally bleached bone

Enjoy and please post your pics aswell and maybe a step by step so I know how you guys paint.
