Break point for allied armies
« on: June 13, 2011, 10:40:33 AM »
Got a multiplayer game coming up. Originally i was going to add up the total number of units from each side, and use that as one big break point. It just seemed like an easy way to run the battle.

However, i've been thinking about it and i don't think that's possible because one player has a Bretonnian army. I think his team will be at an unfair disadvantage because of the Bretonnians unique break point rule.
.......for example, if the high elf player has a break of 8, bretonnians have break of 3. The evil side could kill 11 high elf units to win the game.

So i think we'll have to do individual break points for each army.

My question is, how do you do that? you don't normally have to continue in a 1-1 battle, the game ends.

When one army breaks do you take all of his units off the board? (this seems the obvious answer) But it's going to be weird if they're in the middle of a combat.
Or do you rule that they have to retreat towards the nearest table edge after fighting any combats they're involved in (maybe rule that they can no longer pursue/advance)

Or something else?
We could even make the Bretonnians break point normal for one game?

I agree each army should break on it's own
Units should move off the closest table edge but not that of the enemy deployment edge
Units charged count as confused when charged?

making the Brets use normal BP would tilt the balans the other way, loads of easy units to score for opponent.

We played several variations of rules on multiplayer, most obvious one is that have allies leave the field, and the variations you mention could both work.

Alternative sollutions used,
break off all allies CHARACTERS, which will allow you the troops on the field but forces you to spread command
drop allied commanddistance to 20cm after they reach BP

Andof course, you COULD opt to use an objective driven game, instead of basic WM end°of°game

I thought even those games ended with a withdraw.

I think i might do a mix of the two. When only 1 army reaches it's break point it has a disadvantage, when both reach their break point (unlikely) the game ends.

The disadvantage i was thinking of house-ruling was that army gets -1 to all Command and all the characters have 20cm Command. Represents the army being disheartened
