Wow!  your Nippon army is brilliant, i really love it.

I like the way you've got your units with individual colours, they stand out well. They'll look even better as an army

I finished assembling the general's stand this morning.  The last figure was put in place.

Tonight when I get home, I will flock the stand.  And then I will take a picture!

Thanks!  I was hoping for first place, but second place isn't too bad! ;)

Now I just have to decide what to spend my prize money on!

Speaking of which...

In one of your threads, I noticed that you painted up some Viet Cong.  I am looking for something from the Pendraken range to fit in as fanatic monks, and I thought the Viet Cong might do (with some modifications).  Do you still remember what the product codes were for each of the models?

I need to search a little bit in the pendraken orders and could point to you the references. Do not know what look like what are you searching for... but, there are a reference of civilians that could be interesting (you now... without AK-47).

There a set of Eureka of oriental characters that could be very nice for your army (I now is fantasy chinese.. but ... if you are not too purist they are oriental at the end).

Irregular has a wonderful range of japanse warriors (I love irregular) could be a little slimmy but they have force with the poses and a pretty good detail. I belive they have warriors monks. The figure of the irregular warrior monk is paint converted in a "beduin" in one of my iman characters post in my threat (the one with the naginata converted in a lance beside the imam). And also irregular cavalry are better than pendraken IMHO

hope it helps

I'm looking for figures that are wearing a cone hat, and no armour.  Ideally they would have robes, but that can be added or altered.  I just revisited your painting thread, but I didn't see the pictures that I thought were there.  Perhaps I saw them on the Pendraken forum.

I'll check out Irregular, and see what they have.

Thanks!

The viets are in the page 14 of jchaoswarmasterproyects. I need to start up the 10mm catalogue... but need some time to do it. Then I will try to upload some pictures of civilians (who had the cone hat). But I did not paint them yet

I looked at your photo thread on the Pendraken minaitures forum.  Some of the Viet Cong might work.  I think I could fairly easily convert some rifles into naginata shafts.

Thanks for your help!

OK, so I found out that I was being stupid in not considering the other miniatures in the Pendraken range.  I think I can convert some of the peasants with bows and with arquebuses  to monks.  I still want to consider some of the Viet Cong from Pendraken's Viet Nam range.

I have an image in my head of figures in the conical straw hats weilding naginatas in a variety of poses.

My contributions this month toward the Nippon army have been almost non-existent, due to some 1:1 scale projects I have going on.  I'm getting a house ready for the market, so I've been doing some conversion work on the interior, and looking for a paint scheme that appeals to middle class Americans.  It's also partly a terrain making project, as the yard is getting a make over.

Neutrals!!! Light beige egg shell etc... people love that. Bright colors and white are turn offs for the majority of buyers.
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

And now for something completely different.

I was cleaning/organizing the mess known as my painting bench when I came across some figures I picked up years ago as Warmaster projects.  So I decided to finish one up.  Behold, the great Daemon Engine of Khorne (counts as a daemon beast):

As you can see, this monster needs some back up to fill out the rest of the unit.  I don't know when that will happen, but I am pretty happy with this guy.  The glowing runes were fun to do.

Aside from the 1:1 scale project I've been working on -- and will continue to work on -- I have been experimenting with resin casting.  Here are some photos from that endevor.  I want Tomb Kings related terrain, so when I found this bendy-plastic toy Sphinx, I decided to upgrade it and cast more.  Here is the original body sitting on the mold I made, with three castings in the fore ground:

As you can see I chopped off the head.  For 2 reasons: I am replacing the face of the Sphinx, and I wanted to make a 1 piece mold of the body.  When I use this mold, I plug up the neck hole, then turn it upside down.  The resin is poured into the mold, forming a puddle of resin.  I read somewhere that this kind of casting, where all the detail is on one side, is called puddle casting.  I started with these 1 piece molds because I wanted to start simple.  I figured that 2 part molds would come later.  Here is a shot of some Templar crosses.  I made the original from greenstuff, then made a one-piece mold.  Now when I have extra resin, I make a cross or two:

A while back, I sculpted these little dudes up for a Pendraken sculpting competition.  I like them, so I will attempt to mold and cast these little ones up.  They are 10mm, and were originally to be chariot crew for my Cthulu daemon army's chariots:

And last, here is the Tomb Guard unit that I was hoping to finish over the weekend.  These are a mix of Pendraken Anubis troops with sword and Pharoah's undead tomb guard figures.  I'm happy with how they are coming out and can't wait to finish them!

I've been a busy boy!

Ed,

base the beast sideways ? Will it fit on one stand then (as in fall between the outline of the base ?)

Where DID you get it ?

Are there more ? So you could create a unit of 3 different beasts ??
