My modeling

I made an ogre.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nR9XAf11rsQ&feature=youtu.be

Any interest in a range of generic ogres in 10mm scale?

If there is I would offer the following deal:

A guess at the prices for that expanded initial range:

Ogre Infantry - 24 Ogres - £12
Ogre Cavalry - 12 Ogres riding woolly Rhinos - £12
Ogre Character Set - 12 Ogre Characters - £8
Ogre Cannoneers - 24 Ogres with Cannons - £14
Armoured Ogre  - 24 armoured Ogres - £14

If each of the ten people bought 1 of each of those sets, the total would be £60, plus £6 postage (£9 non-UK).

Can we get ten people to say "yes" to that £60 purchase?
If so I will sculpt those five initial sets.

Holy cow, it's you!

I worship the amazing forumware I've seen you do for Epic.  When I was reading about your Reaver titan from ages ago, you suggested they were entirely personal projects and you didn't part with them, I thought. :-X

This is almost too exciting for my tiny mind. I've been wondering when (if) the Warmaster community would see the kind of innovation that's been going on in Epic for years. Like Stormwind, I'm a fan!

So, what are the plans (are there plans)? It'd be great to see more Ogre stuff and I'd be happy to support this if it comes to fruition.

I've always been desperate to get some of your Epic Torminators or Devastationators, but if there was any chance of you bringing that power to an Ogre faction that would blow my mind.

So, what are the plans (are there plans)?

Phase 1 - Float the idea, and see if there's enough potential interest.
Phase 2 - Sculpt some initial releases
Phase 3 - If the initial releases sell well, expand the range.

The sculpts would be generic in order to avoid IP transgression issues.

For initial releases, I was thinking that (if enough people show interest) I could afford to have 3 moulds made to test the waters:
1- Ogre Infantry (armed with giant swords or cudgels like my concept sculpt)
2- Ogre Cavalry (riding on big beasts, perhaps woolly rhinoceroses)
3- Ogre Characters set (a few leader/wizard types, and some banner bearers too)

If the initial range did well, I'd probably look to expand with another 5 moulds:
- Ogres carrying large guns or cannons
- Armoured Ogres
- Large cannon or catapult dragged by a woolly rhino
- Woolly Mammoth ridden by an Ogre
- Goblin-type allies

I'd probably look to put them on sale through my Abomination Webstore.

As to prices, I'd guess at something like the following for the initial range:
Ogre Infantry - 24 Ogres - £12
Ogre Cavalry - 12 Ogres riding woolly Rhinos - £12
Ogre Character Set - 12 Ogre Characters - £8

I might be able to do bases too, though that'd push the price up by about 15p per base (so about £1.20 for the Ogre Infantry set, and £0.60 for the Ogre Cavalry and Character sets).

How do those prices sound?
How about my idea for the initial 3 moulds?
Would bases be necessary?
How big of an army would people be interested in collecting?
Any other thoughts or suggestions?

Remember suggestions must be generic and have an independent IP - no models/designs that are unique to GW IP (or indeed any IP) could appear in the range.

I think the idea is fantastic

I also think the pricing is quite reasonable

Not sure on the bases as you can get laser cut plastic bases on ebay quite cheaply - I would hate tyo see you lose money in this area.

I think that having 3 poses minimum for standard infantry would also be important

If this was in the new year (of course it is) I would be interested.

Absolutely; I was thinking of doing 6 poses of standard infantry.

I'd be quite happy not to do bases and just leave that up to the customer. :-)

If you were to add in the Ogres with guns and the armoured ones you'd have done enough to get people to commit to buying an army but without those two units those of us without skill/time to sculpt wouldn't be able to play with the toys   until wave two came out so perhaps the sales would be rather damaged by their absence. Personally I'd be tempted to buy a unit or two to have a look but would wait for the range to be complete before buying in any quantity.

Prices sound fine to me, I don't think bases are necessary (generic 20x40mm bases can be found elsewhere).

Would I buy them? It all depends how 'generic' they look (if that makes sense).

In terms of market, the French and Polish forums seem to be rather busier than this one, they might be worth exploring.

Mouldmaking and casting models is an expensive business...

If I were to go up to 5 moulds as an initial range I'd need... (quick calculations)... a minimum of ten people, each committing to buy an army of at least 1 of each of the 5 sets. That wouldn't make me break even, but it would mitigate any losses.

A guess at the prices for that expanded initial range:

Ogre Infantry - 24 Ogres - £12

They'd look pretty similar to the concept sculpt in the video in the first post I made.
Do you like that look?

I'd appreciate a little help from established community members in spreading the word / gaining interest.

Potentially modeling a Warmaster army ! (of large ugly humanoids)

Ogre Character Set - 12 Ogre Characters - £8
Ogre Cannoneers - 24 Ogres with Cannons - £14

As a quick breakdown.....  that is
8 bases  of light infantry and 8 of heavy
6 bases of cavalry
8 bases of shooters.
and a load of characters

so with some mixing and mashing you get 2 units of cav, 2 units of "handgunners" and app 6 units of infantry !!
