proxy ideas: Brettonians
« on: August 04, 2013, 01:52:07 PM »

for Brettonians here is my list and feel free to either send comments on my blog, or use this thread to suggest improvements, alternatives etc

As the Brettonians are basically a high medieval army there are lots of historical ranges that could be used.

One point to consider is that while the size of infantry is pretty compatible between most historical suppliers, the size of cavalry can vary rather a lot. TB Line and Kallistra cavalry are rather bigger (similar in size to GW Empire knights) - most of the others are rather smaller, and probably similar to the very slim GW Brettonians.

Manufacturers to consider
Pendraken
Kallistra
TB Line
Old Glory
Magister Militum

100 Years War ranges are the most likely contenders, but earlier crusaders could be used - especially those with cloth barded horses, and War of the Roses are possibilities too.

The Pegasus Knights could be assembled from the Pegasus wings from Pendraken (which are the same as their Birdman wings).

Can I ask that we re-post the lists and links from your blog in the corresponding threads?

I only ask as in my search for pics and info, I sometimes find links to dead blogs when people move and don't take all the content

I'm not insinuating that this will happen of course, but I think having the list on the forum keeps things nice and neat, plus other people can add and edit stuff in if you have an attack of "real life (tm)" and are unavailable for any reason :)

yeah sure, I can start copying staff here as well, i just might not be able to keep everything tightly in sync between the blog and the forum when 10mm manufacturers flood the market with brand new lines.... ah well.... :)

When we have covered all the core races we can produce a pdf as well.

now if i could find an easy way to copy paste the links.....

An absolutely perfect Hippogryph/Hippogriff!

Found it in this topic: http://www.wargamerau.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=147555 Which gives me ideas for other things as the Iron Wind monsters seem really good and well scaled.

Word is that TBLine miniatures are currently not trading (the owner was in some personal difficulty) so their beautiful models should be considered OOP for the time being.... that being said, what are people's recommendations for suitable proxies now? I was looking at the old glory site but their pics are small and I have no idea how they compare to other ranges size-wise
