[Warmaster] Headquarters Great Tent
« on: February 17, 2014, 09:00:26 PM »
Here is a tent i bought from Baueda range.

It is originaly designed for 15mm but suits well our range (in my humble opinion).

I have dedicated a topic to the Baueda range on our french forum with some pictures of the tents i found interesting (and bought) for the Warmaster range here (in french) :

And the complete tutorial and painting job of my tent is here, for the curios ones.

Oh wow!

Great find Marell and well painted to boot!

Just been going through your threads there and there's LOADS that would fit in 10mm.

Even the fort could work as a Kislev one with those sharp wood pallisades.  Most of the supplies would also work as well - to create objective counters/diorams or fill carts etc.

The Egyptian pillars are beautiful too - would make great desert terrain.

Yeas, loads of things would be, i suppose, fitting our scale.

generaly, 15m sceneries are fitting well our range, but be carefull, they are primarily designed for 15mm so some of them may not be correct for us.

I did not orderd (yet) the fort, but i thought too it would be nice for less civilisated races (lizardmen, kislev, orcs...).

But i think i will, for i was satisfied by everything (but one tent) i bought them. As said in my (french) topic.

Yeah, I saw that the Viking tent was too large, and so the contents in it looked too big as well.

I notice that you don't have too buy the full earthworks - there are ground bases that mean you can very simple forts that are simply palisades / stakes in the ground.  That in particular I think would work well.

Thanks marell!  And Google translate works pretty well (for those of us who can't read French)!

Yes, viking tent (my prefered halas !) is too large, but it could be possible to drill the stuff at the interior and try to use it anyway. I will try that, as i bought it.

Yep, i did not bought any wall as i wanted first to check the size of the tents, but i think i will by a complete stone and wood set one day or the other. It could be used by any race i think, even the Empire or Bretonnia as a far advanced fort.

Hmm, would anyone be interested in Stronghold 1 style palisades? ie, entire trees sharpened and stuck in the ground, 3-4 rows deep?
Quite crucial to be able to tell minefields and rally points apart...

I finished the characters. Few things where not yet painted on this pict, but it's done now.

I will prepare a small scener with a group of person welcoming the general, walking out of his tent with his bodygards.

Squires and servants.

General and guards.

Tent guards. Last one conducting a horse. Second horse will be tied near a tree on the right of the tent.

I'm currently thinking about the base of the scenery. I have a thin (3mm) wooden plaque which i have sanded down on the border, to lower the thickness effect. I would like it to show reliefs and not be strictly flat, so i'm working on this idea for now. I know ther will be a tree on the right of the tent, but that is all for now. Any help on that appreciated.

I use Vallejo Grey Pumice to add texture to my bases!

If you're after extra detail maybe try water troughs for the horses? and an empty Empire Wagon would look right as well.

Grey Pumice fro mVallejo and Prince August Artificial Stone are more or less the same thing. Texture is a little bit different but franckly, there won't be an important difference.

I'm unsure how it will appear with a large (10 cm) surface. I have never done it yet on such large bases. I wonder if i make an important relief or not.

I plan to make a complete tent camp, and i must keep some ideas to represent the living camp too. So i must not spare all my ideas with this HQ tent. I will keep the idea of an important presence of other animals for the rest of the camp, probably.

But maybe a simple bucket would fit a place where you put the horse of the general, yes, thanks for the idea ;)

Here is how i will probably place the various characters around the tent.

I have shaped a little the base to give fiew relief.

I have begun to use the Artificial Stone to base everything.

I will have to continue glueing the figs one by one, and then texture the base around it before i continue to the next one.

For now i have some few interrogations left.

- Do i paint the base dark brown to represent mud in front of the two opening and at the horses waiting ? Probably yes.
- Do i add shourds for the tent ? Probably no, it would add to confusion i fear.
