Assembling BFG Tau Orbitals
« on: June 26, 2014, 01:34:53 AM »
I have a pair of Tau orbitals and am trying to decide how to assemble them (after drilling every piece for pinning!). Seems to me that the 2 gravitic hooks for Orcas or Dhows should be on one orbital, assuming the escort squadron is based at it versus spread between 2 orbitals.

For the same reason I think the 2 launch bays should be on one orbital, preferably the one without the gravitic hooks, so each orbital has defensive/offensive spacecraft of some sort.

That would leave a habitat module, a manufacturing module and two ion cannon/railgun modules. I'm thinking of putting one ion cannon/railgun module on each orbital, the manufacturing/research module on the orbital with the launch bays and the habitat module on the orbital with the gravitic hooks.

The 3-domed module, which I assume is the manufacturing/research module, is far heavier than the others, so having the 2 launch bays on the same orbital might slightly offset a tendency for the model  to tip over. The launch bays would look best opposite each other but one might need to be opposite the manufacturing module.

Can a large base be used with these orbitals to make them more stable?

Any suggestions on which modules to combine on each orbital? Ideas are welcome.
