Expanding Undead army question
« on: July 16, 2014, 04:11:39 PM »
This is what I've currently got for my Undead army, all Evil Empire except where indicated:

7 x Skeletons
7 x Bowmen (4 using Kallistra figures)
2 x Cavalry
3 x Chariots
1 x Carrion
1 x Bone Giant
2 x Sphinx
1 x Skull Chukka
1 x Bone Thrower
1 x Tomb King
4 x Liche Priests
2 x Liche Chariots

A total of 25 units/2305 points.

I've got a few odd figures from old GW chariot sets that would give me enough command type figures to create a few more basic skeleton units if I bought some minis from Kallistra or Pendraken. I could quite easily add an extra 8 skeleton and 10 bowmen units to push the army total to just shy of 3000 points and have a total of 43 units. BIG break point but lots of quite weak units - Skeletons being very easy to paint, black undercoat, dry-brush bone and pick out weapons/shields/clothing as required.

On the other hand, would I have a more rounded/battle-worthy force if I bought things like Bone Giants, Skull Chukkas or Bone Throwers off E-bay?

In short - "What makes a good Undead Army?"

Any thoughts/comments appreciated guys, thanks in advance  :D

Cheers, excellent advice there.  ;)

I wasn't convinced about more cavalry - same stats as infantry but at double the cost for the faster movement = probably not worth it, unless fielding some kind of themed army.

Note to self:
More Carrion, Skull Chukkas and Chariots needed.

Further note to self:
Don't just read the forum, look at the rest of the site!!!

For a 2k army you should have 2 carrion and 6 chariots and a high breakpoint.
I am playing since years against khemri and this makes them hard.
Armies ready for battle - Empire, Chaos, Dwarves, Skaven, Bretonia, Araby, Witch Hunters
Armies in recruitment - Orcs & Goblins, High Elves, Dogs of war

Carrion and Chariots to attack with.
Skeleton foot and Sphinx's'  to hold the line.
Skull Chuckers to pound enemy knight units.

Basically you need combined arms! :)

The only problem being sourcing chariot units. GW stuff seems to be hard to get hold of and/or ridiculously expensive and the only alternatives I can find, (Pendraken/Kallistra), look as though they are too wide for a 20x40mm base  :'(

I think the same applies to price for GW and size for Pendraken/Kallistra Skull Chukkas.

Carrion from Kallistra look OK though.

So, apart from infantry/archers/carrion, it looks like expansion will be a slow job... :'(

I'd ask Kallistra if they can send you a sample of 1 chariot - they did the same for me when I was considering buying a load of zombies but wanted to check their compatibility with the GW undead infantry range. It may be with some careful placing of models (staggered a bit) you could get them to rank up?
