Oh and the shipping containers? Dear god what a disaster. Far to big... What was I thinking?

This is 40k. This is the IMPERIUM OF MAN. "Far to big" is not something that should come in to it. ;)

Nice job man !

I love the modern/old style. Looks really 40Kish.

I would not have chosen a squarred and regular shape, anyway. i would ahve gone a weird way, lije the third picture you have showed (space port). It's a so big structure that it can't be fully regular and symetrical. Have to show some few differencies.

Well, on this occasion it really was too big. it would have made all the lovely work I did in the inner sanctum etc... Look
simply 'plonked'' on top of it. Real ameture-hour... You know? I've something else in the wings. I'll see how it goes.

Also I went symmetrical like the ramilies because it felt nice to model. Personally anything asymmetrical shaped added to the superstructure itself now would jarr. However on the next level down the details on the superstructure themselves were intended to be more asymmetric...  That's if it even happens at all now.

So anyone wanna buy some containers then...? ;)

Did you have to buy the whole £90 scenery kit for just that? I couldn't find any smaller sets of scenery.

As for the station, yeah, symmetry is king :D I just hope no one attacks from the top or underneath ;)

Good lord no. I found the container sprue on eBay and got all four for forty quid with postage. Was a folly purchase that I can't really afford at present but I guess I'll just put em back on eBay again...  ::)

more progress:

so as you can see I got the docking section done. quite complicated and expensive and I've still one docking section pending (batteries in the post from vanguard)
I went for a pointy look to the bottom side, the inverted roof also serving as the base stand and the inverted towers as counterparts to the butresses.
forgive the shyte photos and the general wonkiness of the mini at present, a lot of this is simply balancing/blutacked in order to dry-fit for pics. a lot is un-glued to facilitate ease of painting and then again a lot of it is simply wonky LOL!

Wonderfull !

Find that it equilibrates better between width and heights now.

And also, it has a more "dockyard" aspect like that. But still clearly a temple feeling.

Courage gluing all those turrets.

What paint schem are you going after ?

Cheers. as for the turrets, the little helion turrets were, in the end , snipped and superglued without Thier tabs on the bottom. I felt I had more control that way. I had originally drilled out tiny divots to locate them when doing the basilica innermost sanctum. I didn't bother on the dock arms ones for some reason!
Oh, and should you mean the turrets on the sides of the docking arms, that's not happening at all. If anything there will be little docking ports added (for smaller ships) or perhaps just the turret locator divots will be filled with GS...

Now colour... Before lord B says "white" I'm saying NO! Lol I've absolutely no luck at all with white bfg models. To be honest I was thinking of my battlefleet Armageddon scheme, with black on the flat areas, the roof of the dome and buttress/towers would be verdegris copper. But tbh I'm wondering if something better is called for. Perhaps just a few extra layers of successive lighter drybrushing on the Armageddon scheme to bring it up to a bone colour a bit more... Kinda like the official paintjob on fw's ramilies...

Whi.......... Damn. Missed it.

Most space stations are run by the mechanicum. I painted all mine up in metallics and reds. So you could go that route?

It's looking great mate. I honestly thought it was finished before, but now youve added more!! Although, personally, I would have added the docking sections at a 45 degree angle. So the incoming fighter crews would come in between any docking ships (not over them). But that's just me. It looks great as is.

So, when are you going to paint it pink?

yeah what a dinkle move of me! I've been looking at it thinking, yeah, they'd fit between the balustrades on the docking arms, forgetting that there'd be a  damn cruiser there at times!
yeah so I simply rotated it 45 degrees as suggested. much better.

only real disaster is that the piers have warped/twisted somewhat. making it all pissed and wonky. gargh! what can you do. typical bfg...

while I've been at this remake of my Armatige class station, I figured I'd do a remake of the Mackay class orbital weapon platform I did too:

I'm rather pleased with how this came out tbh. the bulk of it is from the AT spire sprue, the dome on the underside is an imperial guard tank searchlight, the weapons from the helion set and an aerial from an imperial cruiser. I'm most pleased with how this actually looks like an actual bfg miniature that would have been released.
although I've gone for lances, not batteries, this time around, I've enough parts to make another of these so watch this space!

I also feel it nicely references some of the artwork from the rulebook to some extent:

I Just love this image and many like it in the rulebook, it really shows the scale of the setting of bfg and has inspired me a lot in my creations/conversions (mined asteroids for example)

Nice one !

I love it. Simple and efficient. Well done with the bits from here and there.
