Warmaster tournament in Saffron Walden, 18 March 2017
« on: January 15, 2017, 10:58:15 AM »
Please PM me if you want to come along and I'll send you details of how to pay the £10 for your entry.  Because of rising interest and the limited size of the venue, places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis dependent upon making said payment.

VENUE
St Mary’s Church Parish Rooms CB10 1JP.

FORMAT
Three standard games: 0900-1145 | 1215-1500 | 1515-1800.

In the first two rounds opponents will be randomly allocated but you won't play the same person twice.  The third round will be based on the rankings at the end of the second round.

Scoring will be as follows:

4 points for win & break opponent
3 points for win (with more than 600 points damage inflicted on opponent)
2 points for win (with less than 600 points damage inflicted on opponent)
1 point for a draw (both sides within 150 points of damage)

To save me the hassle of accountancy after each round, ties will be resolved through ‘strength of schedule’, ie. the number of points scored by your opponents during the previous rounds.  If that is also tied, the damage inflicted in the final round match will be taken into account.

ARMIES
2,000 point armies from any of the following: Albion, Araby, Beastmen, Bretonnians (tournament list), Cathay, Chaos, Chaos Dwarves, Daemons (tournament list), Dark Elves, Dogs of War, Dwarf, Empire, Goblins, High Elves, Kislev, Lizardmen, Nippon, Norse, Ogre Kingdoms, Orcs, Skaven, Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts, Witch Hunters, Wood Elves.  The lists can be found here:
https://sites.google.com/site/wmplaytest/work-in-progress-1/publications
Please note that in this tournament Beastmen and Wood Elves CANNOT use additional woods.  And no siege equipment can be used.

RULE-SET
We will be using the latest version of the Warmaster Revolution rules with all optional rules (including Scouting) and the advanced terrain rules.  The book can be downloaded from here:

Myself and Steve will be there again and will sponsor a table. I think I might give Araby a spin this time, if I can get the models painted in time.

I appreciate that not everyone may have played many games with the Revolution rules, I was thinking of producing a summary sheet identifying the main differences between Revolution and Original Warmaster for veteran players like myself.

Is this something you would be interested in?

Pleased to say that we now have 18 paid-up players for the next TriWiz.  New record, I think.  WMR seems to be having an effect?!  But it means that we are now very close to the maximum numbers because of the size of the venue.  So if you do want to come, please PM me very soon as the doors may suddenly close.

Attached are the Main Rules changes I have found for Warmaster Revolution. I'm sure there are many that I have missed so please read and let me know what should be amended.

Edit - these are now updated following feedback.

Pleased to announce that the next TriWiz now has 18 paid-up players.  Because of the size of the venue that is the maximum we can take.  If you want to be put on the reserve list, please PM me and I will let you know if someone drops out.  You can then have their slot.

Three good games against varied armies, I somehow managed to squeak a win against Norse, Albion and Chaos.

Copied this link from the main Warmaster page - these are Melvin's photos - he was playing Norse. Needless to say he is a much better photographer than me!

oh man, those tables look great and that is a lot of warmaster being played!

just curious, how did you play the rules for the hills?  As they are flat, what are the rules if I am on the hill and attack a unit that is also on the hill.  Did you have hill crests painted on or anything like that to represent the top of the hill?

The organisers have a house rule that limits line of sight to 2 cm from the edge of the hill. So if you are more than 2 cm back from the edge of the hill you have no line of sight. Other than that if you are positioned higher up you have defended status as normal.
Interestingly the organisers used the new terrain rules in Revolution and there is a typo which fails to mention artillery being defended on hills! So no one with artillery could have it defended! Thankfully this will be edited for the 1.5 version.
