UK Winter Warmer this weekend
« on: January 12, 2010, 10:11:29 AM »
Just a quick post for those who don't visit the yahoo group.
There is a friendly day of warmaster being held at Warhammer World Nottingham this Saturday (16th), it is free, you just need to bring yourself and an army along with some money for your lunch.
If you are wanting to attend please post your intentions here.

Cheers
Mick

I'll be there. Actually I'd best remind the wife of this important fact...

'Twas good to see some of you, even if all too briefly when my late arrival and early departures were combined...

I wish they'd put on a two day event at WHW, it leaves far more time for the social aspect, IoW getting rather inebriated on the Saturday night...

Well, they used to run the Call to Arms tournie, but this seems to have stopped, presumably because of either a lack of resources (time, money, personnel) or a lack of entrants.

Shame, really.

I think it ended due to lack of entrants. Even at it's peak the most players it attracted was in the region of 20-30, IoW at best only enough to fill WHW. And ultimately whilst GW might still effectively 'rent' WHW for free, for events it wants them to sell out as the more people that come for a full weekend, the more food they sell, and of course the more people that might pick something up from the WHW store. As it happened I decided to finally buy some fo the limited edition Bugman's models from behind the bar as an example, multiply that by fifty or sixty and its a lot better than just multiplying by twenty or thirty...

Of course a Specialist Games campaign weekend might be one answer, but you will find that often the same people that play one SG system that might come to such an event play another system that is also there, thus diluting the number of players for each system and not necissarily increasing overall numbers.

As to results, I think that Tom posted them on the Yahoo Group Lex. Needless to say Alex won yet again...

Winter Warmer seems like a good event.
Wish I could have been there.
Someday...
