Warmaster Deployment Cards

Warmaster Deployment Cards
(The positioning of forces into a formation for battle.)

These optional rules are to spice up the normal pitch battle that occurs between two forces.  After the terrain has been placed, the sides of the table have been picked, pick one of the following deployment cards that suits your need. Then both sides declare their deployment card and then deploy in the grey and coloured zones.

These deployments are designed for a 1.8x1.2m (6x4 foot) board, if the board is  2.4x1.2m (8x4 foot) then for the deployments ignore the last 30cm (1 foot) at each short edge.

Each square is 20 x 20cm, the Grey Deployment Zone is 60 x 20cm.

Any more suggestions as there are 2-3 cards unused?

This certainly will add colour to a standard pitched battle, simple yet elegant!

Good ideas Steve.

Now what would be really interesting is if you could come up with an interactive approach where both sides set up was determined by the interaction of whichever card both sides picked. e.g. If I pick a force march and he picks ambush I could be in trouble (disadvantageous set up for me) but if I pick force march and he picks envelop he is in trouble (advantageous set up for me). Of course this would have to be done carefully so that no set up resulted in one side just mashing the other - it should be slightly advantageous rather than "I might as well pack up and retire now."

Nice ideas... I'd love to see how this progresses.

Have you seen the "Strategy and Objectives for Warmaster in Fanatic #93?  I gave that game generator a try once or twice, and liked it, though it may be a bit too involved.

On the other hand, it's still fairly interactive less of a rock paper scissors game than selecting two deployment cards.
