Hounds: It's not true that all 3/3/0 cavalry costs 30 points. If I recall correctly only Chaos Hounds have that stats. Ie Vampire Dire Wolfs only have 2/3/0 and cost 40 points. I would argue that Chaos Hounds are so cheap to balance the fact that Chaos Knights and Chaos Warriors are so expensive. With the Marauder list that's not true anymore so I would vote for the 40 pts cost (max 3/1000 would be ok then).

The dire wolves have a different set of rules from any other hounds unit (Albion, Beastmen, chaos). I have always assumed the reason for the increased points cost is the +1 on the first charge and the other undead abilities they have.

2. Warhounds at 30 or 40 points, this is the same problem that GW has what are the right points for this type of army?  We all know that the GW tweaks the points here and there, as a compromise for now lets throw in 35 points for a 3rd option, your list you choose, as only playtesting will tell.  (For reference I still stand by 40 points.)

5. Wizards just to be themed I would have a Wizard in-between Chaos and Empire a Chaos Wizard in training if you like a Marauder Sorcerer;

Marauder Sorcerer +1 Atk Command:7 for 55 points

He would learn his extra command ability by raiding.

I would go for Spawn more in keeping and as you said they fought in battles.

@Warhounds: Yes, they get a +1 on their first charge. So they have the same stats as Chaos Hounds in the first round of combat - then they fall back on 2 attacks. For 10 points more.
It's true that they are immune vs terror. That could be of some importance some time. But the other special abilities are not too important I'd say.
No, in my opinion the point cost of Chaos Hounds should not be of reference for other units. Given the fact that cavalry with its movement and basing is powerful and that the cheapest infantry troops cost 25-30 points with similar or just a bit worse stats I still vote for 40 points.

@Lex: Where do you always get your ideas from?  :)

Are they that bad then  ???     :'(

I have been advocating using an additional, slightly more objectives driven, approach to defining victory conditions without actualy using a scenario based mechanismm for considerable time now.

As for the ideas. Well, I was reading all sorts of material on mythology etc in addition to my "normal" interest in War and warfare from about age 13 on, and in 4 languages. You tend to pick up and idea or two with that amount of "stuff" in your head.

I was interrupted earlier this afternoon as I was writing up those rules and two "marauder"-style scenarions, hence I did not "point" my suggestion properly. Scenario-seeds are stored away for future posting

Well, I would say they are "all-out".

A definition of creativity says that it's all just about leaving defined borders.
So I would say you're definitely creative! ;)

On the other hand I have to admit, I'm a bit frightened of playing around with fortified troops as I know that they are quite powerful and things like armour ie multiply. But I have no doubts at all if this is just for a scenario.

Greetings,
Gerald

well, make them defended then  8) but something like that would definitly be a good consideration to add a fluff element to the game in a game-defining set-up. And that was just OTTOMH, after consideration (and some people moderating me with some good common sense) the Shipguard would definitly be only lightly armoured, nobody likes to go swimming in 3o kg of armour.

And some proper playtesting would yeild more insight in what needs to be done to make this a playable suggestion (and actualy, to make it a playable list). Having the longship behaving as an attached character on dragon, without giving other bonusses to the Shipguard and them being like normal Marauders might work too !
