Tale of Warmaster Painters II: May...
« on: May 04, 2010, 10:48:50 PM »
May's here!

To celebrate I've treated myself to painting up a unit of dragon ogres for my Chaos army. I have to say that they're a delight to paint - partly because the sculpts are great, and partly because with only three of them to paint it's the fastest 250 points I've had so far. In fact, they're done after just a few hours (I'd guess less than three) but my camera seems to have hidden itself. As soon as I unearth it I'll post some pictures. Next on my to-do list is finishing off the Marauders I've started and painting up a second sorcerer (the wizardy dude from the Albion set).

Hopefully May will be a good painting month for all of us...

I have been slacking but can now count amongst my Araby a unit of elephants, 2 units of magic carpets (spot the obvious assembly mistake on one of the carpets) and 2 units of archers !

Photos to follow (camera somewhere in my pigsty of a study !)

PS Also picked up nice Kallistra castles at Triples which are very nice, tried varnishing with Army Dip (Dark Tone) in one go and looks pretty good - again will post once camera appears !

Nice to hear that I'm not alone in (a) painting, (b) losing cameras in mess, and (c) liking the Kallistra castle.

Pictures/review of the castle would be really great, I'm on the cusp of buying one but would really like to see more pictures and hear about quality/size etc etc.  :)

I have got to say these are the worst painted dragon ogres I have ever seen  ;)
As always very nice work pw, I particularly like the flesh detailing.
I hope you pinned them before gluing though!
As they are prone to seperate during use :(

No pins so now I'm nervous! Luckily I don't get to play much!  :'( ;D

In place of pins I've gone for my patented mix of greenstuff and superglue, hopefully that'll hold.

Azrael's golden rule #67 - Always pin boys!  ;D

I use GS as well but I don't know how much support it gives?
As for the greenstuff/superglue mix I always find that pinning and using superglue gel to fix then when dry gs to fill cracks and potentially add support works for me.
I would be worried about unknown chemical reactions taking place between the supreglue and greenstuff. But that being said, there may be none :)

Then pop the model under a hot lamp/hairdryer to help the GS set faster.

I allways scretch the parts to be glued on the base and the base itself. Greenstuff will be only applied in case I need to fill gaps.

The reaction between green stuff and superglue ist that it hardens faster and the surveillance get´s harder.

Never had an issue tha figures left the base with this technic....they are glued there forever  ::)

Cheers
Claus
