Tale of Warmaster Painters II: June...
« on: June 09, 2010, 10:34:09 PM »
I'm told that June's arrived  :-[...

Recently my WM painting has been something of a washout. Largely because what little painting time I've had has gone on painting up some Incursion figures and, generally on playing games instead of painting (including some cracking WM games).

I'm also wondering, has the 'Tale' lost its way? This one's become very vague and while it's nice to see some of you still going strong the original idea seems to have got left behind somewhat. Perhaps we should have a rethink about what it's about and whether it does anything that personal project logs wouldn't do just as well. That said, I'm keen to see what's been going on!

Well, inquiring minds do want your battle reports.

Personally, I find the tale very motivational.
It ensures I strive to finish off what I am currently working on, whilst planning my next big thing.

This month, I will be finishing off the beastmen (again) trying to knock out 3k of BKC British (not really related) and then starting an Albion and Bretonnian army running in tandem as they will be sharing a few of the troop types.

I've found that I've bitten off more than I could chew!  :o

Right now I am stalled out on the Hounds of Tindalos.  I have 1 almost sculpted, and I am working on armatures for the other sculpts.  I've thrown away many, many, many attempts.

I am sculpting up two stands of worm swarms, each 2cm by 2cm.  One stand is complete.  I will be able to get these cast up.

And if work and two kids weren't keeping me busy enough, I've been emptying the painting area in prep for some home improvement that is getting done.  We're getting a new bathroom put in the basement, baseboard electric heaters, and more storage shelves are being put in.  The heaters are really needed, because I was working in 45F to 50F degree temps over the winter.  That's 7C to 10C for all of you (much more sane) metric thinkers.

The Tale has motivated me to get a project started that I was thinking about for a few years.  I like it!

I will be the first to post any actual pictures of work on Junes tale ;)

Here are the remaining beastherd units.

Next challenge is 3k of british for BKC (sat primed) and 3k each of albion and bretonnian.
See you in the next tale.

Thanks.
I playes the list once before and got stuck the wrong side of a river facing a battery of dwarf cannons :(
But this Thursday it will be out in force (2k).
Don't know what I am facing yet though.

I will try and do a BR for the game.

What an awesome thread!

azrael71: Awesome work on that army. Been following the development of this project for a while now.

I'm not a very regular painter, but I managed to get a few units done since I started working on this army again sometime last month. So here we go...

The Marauders were painted in May, the Warriors last week.

The Harpies were painted last week, the Hell Cannon is from a few years back and was built for the Elite Unit Competition.

Some Hounds, finished last week. I like to stretch my cavalry units a little, to save money, but also because I think they look better that way... greater sense of movement.

Since I didn't have enough models to start with, I made these Proxy Hounds from Epic Boar Riders and lots of greenstuff. I thought they kinda go with the Nurgle flavour of my army.

That is great, a big quantity of furius nurgle workshippers! and great paint. Do you have a conversion in the marauder unit?

Thanks guys... really appreciate the comments  :)

Yes, there are several weapon swaps in the Marauder & Warrior units, plus the big guy on the Marauder stand on the right. I cut off two of the original guys and replaced them with a heavily cut down Epic scale plastic Minotaur. Chopped off the head from a spare Marauder and put it on top... unit Champion/Big Guy finished.
The hounds also had a few tail swaps.

I like to convert most of my minis, so that no two stands look the same...

@Azrael: Great stuff, that looks like a great army with some nice sculpts filling the gaps in the GW line.

@Schwager: Wow, really cool stuff. And the three-hound bases look great. It's the first time I've been totally convinced that saving on miniatures is actually good for something other than saving money - they look far more dynamic than my four-hound bases  :(.

As for me, I'm still painting figures for Incursion (think Space Hulk with Zombies) and will be until I get bored of them. Hopefully the break will give me some enthusiasm for painting WM again (although I've just spotted some nice ships from Forged in Battle for use with Trafalgar that I'm finding it hard to resist... I guess that's a Specialist Game at least!)
