Battlespeak
« on: August 02, 2010, 09:23:07 AM »
I know there are some people on this forum that have used battlespeak.
So this is targetted at them.
Did this ever go any further?
Looks ok for live play over the internet or battle reports, I just can't get it running at the minute :(

Thanks in advance.

Happy Ent has not developed it past the version you have available on the Battlenet group. That version was running without complications, but there where some enhancement requests logged.

There should be a (user)manual of sorts around, Yahoo Battlespeak group archives ??

My best guess at the moment would be that you need a proper Java°environment

Thanks Lex,
I have a proper java environment :)
Again not an intuititive system for non techies to use (and I AM a techie) :(

I think that a decent online or PBEM system is what this game system needs.
It would encourage more games to be played (worldwide) as well as strengthening the playtest community.

Battlespeak, as the Happy Ent envisioned it at the time, was primarily meant to allow people to recreate battle and post them on websites. As an alternative for the Flash°reports that Brumbaer has.

I'll have to check out battlespeak.

Second the interest in online warmaster. There isn't anyone interested in it within three hours drive...  and with a young child, just not in the cards. I'm lucky to get 3 hours a month for a game!

Shouldn't be too hard to make the basics for it. In fact, it may be possible to use the DBA/DBM module (?) and swap out the graphics for the counters published in Warmuster.

I'm really short on time, otherwise i'd take on the project.

A playing platform for Warmaster would really be great. There are so many players worldwide I would like to play against which I probably won't ever meet in person.
Unfortunately all the programs I tried only work if you're nearly a programmer.
Also a project we tried once with cameras and online did not work at all.

What I would like is a nice, easy to use program based on mouse control with nice graphics (2D would be enough) able to online play a game against another human player.
It should be able to measure distances by just clicking on a point then on a second.
When ordering I would just mark all the units to order - then click on the ordering character - then give the order (by double click?).
When moving the program would show me the radius I could move my unit within.
When staying one second above a unit with the mouse it would automatically show me the characteristics of the unit.
When staying above a terrain piece one second it would give me the characteristics of the terrain piece (could even be a reference for real life games).

To be continued...

I would also pay for such a program.

Anyone else out there who would like such a game?

Greetings,
Gerald

I know I'm dreaming. Put it on the X-mas wishlist. ;-)

There might be  ;)

I agree with the comment about programming.
I do it for a job and a lot of the apps out there are very clunky.
I had a look at dba online last night.
This looks like it may have some potential.

I will keep digging and let you know.

In my wanderings I across this link.

Its Warmaster for Cyberboard
http://bruntz.pagesperso-orange.fr/croisee/

They have spent a lot of time on the game icons/units.

I have an old cyberboard file for warmaster but not as nice as the ones on that site.
